Jersey Record Victory
A disappointing evening saw Kent FA Women’s representative team fall to defeat against their Jersey counterparts in their second match this season in the Southern Counties Cup.
An encouraging start from Kent saw Holly Diamond’s shot well saved by Sara Luce in the Jersey goal and the visitors soon took the lead courtesy of Aine Ruth who tucked the ball away from close range. Straight from the restart Kent were seeking an equaliser and Gabby Buddle-Smith was denied by a superb defensive block on the goal line. Jersey again took advantage of this narrow escape by extending their lead, a great run from Rebekah Pierce found Samantha Silva who made no mistake from inside the box. It was the visitors who had the next chance to score when Leah Morris rattled the crossbar from twenty yards out and the visitors went into the break with a two-goal advantage.
The second half was just a few minutes old when Jersey added a third goal, Tiffany Sundby rising highest in the box to head home following a corner. The next fifteen minutes saw Kent play some great football as they tried to get back into the match, Gabriella Hawkins going close twice whilst Stephanie Adby and Amelia Bate were also denied by the strong Jersey defensive backline. With five minutes remaining Kent pulled a goal back when Kaydance Kabadaki scored from the right-hand side of the box. Ellen Napper nearly set up a grandstand finish as her reaping drive went inches past the post. The visitors saw out the remaining few minutes to record a 3-1 victory.
