With STORM BERT out in his full force, all games but one were out to the sword.
The only game to go ahead this morning was on the 3G pitch at The Nuneaton Academy.

It saw NUNEATON TROPHIES LEAGUE THREE leaders Grendon travel to take on Horseshoes.

The game started off a little scrappy with both sides eager to create that first clear cut chance. Grendon saw themselves charging at the Horseshoes defence but no real danger was created.

Around 20 minutes in and Grendon took the lead. A corner game into the box which resulted in a scrappy goal mouth scramble which saw Alan Carlberg poke the visitors into the lead.

Grendon looked to build on the advantage but Horseshoes reacted well to going behind and started to mount some attacks of their own. On around 30 minutes a long range effort from Matty Wyant grazed the bar and went out for a goal kick.
5 minutes later and Horseshoes were rewarded for their efforts with arguably the goal of the game, it was a beautifully executed half volley from Patrick Brown on the edge of the box thet powered into the bottom corner and we were all level.

The teams went in level at half time which seemed about right given the fightback Horseshoes showed after going behind, although Grendon may have felt slightly frustrated that they hadn’t took one of their chances in the early exchanges.

Grendon started the second half strongly and on around 55 minutes had the lead and forced a good save from Horseshoes keeper Matt Deacon. He then pulled off another fantastic cat like save to keep the ball out but the loose ball fell to Dave Boal who was able to bury the rebound.

Most of the second half was a good tussle between the two sides but no real threatening chances came until the last 10 minutes when a low cross came in for Dave Boal to score his second of the game and seal 3 points for Grendon, which sees them go 6 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over 2nd place Chetwynd Chess.

Horseshoes picked Matty Wyant as their man of the match while Grendon couldn’t choose between Alan Carlberg or Jayden Crowley so decided to split it between both of them.
