A brief history of the Chesterfield and District Sunday League

The mid sixties saw the FA have a change of heart that was to herald the dawn of a new era and bring football to many many more people than ever before.Prior to this time the playing of football had largely been a Saturday pastime for a limited number of the population.

Once official sanctions had been granted to the Sunday game,it was soon realised the enormous,untapped potential that existed and very quickly towns and cities throughout the country began to form leagues to play on a Sunday.

No one could have ever envisaged the phenomenal boom that was to follow with pubs,clubs,works and all sorts of organisations wanting to form teams to play the most popular game in the world.

Chesterfield pefectly mirrored the national trend and in 1966 Mr Roly Hutson formed the Chesterfield & District Sunday League .

The league has continued to grow throughout its history to become the largest in Derbyshire and amongst the largest in the whole country.

The league currently has 7 divisions along with 3 knockout cup competitions which teams compete for.

The league has a strong management structure and enjoys support and sponsorship from local businesses including our main league sponsor NAPIT.
