The third rounds of the Derbyshire Senior and Junior Cups were held on Sunday with a place in the quarter finals at stake. NAPIT ONE leaders Hasland Devonshire have a fine cup pedigree and they brushed aside the challenge of FC Chadd 2013 at Hasland Park, beating them by five goals to nil. With the calibre of players at their disposal they must have a great chance of lifting the trophy, especially if Lee Clay can continue his fine goalscoring form that saw him bag himself a treble in this game with Jez Mitchell and Pete Stubley weighing in with a goal each. Tibshelf Town joined them in the last eight after an excellent 3-1 victory over Hilton FC. John Harris has been in great form this season and he was on the scoresheet again in this game along with Ross Armstrong and Scott Vardy. In an all NAPIT ONE clash title chasing Renishaw MW took on strugglers New Whitt who currently prop up the division. On paper this looked to be a formality for Renishaw but New Whitt were having none of it and a superb performance saw them just come up short, losing by the odd goal in five, Aidan Ordidge, Neil Ashley and Ant Lynam's goals shading it for Renishaw. NAPIT TWO side Wingerworth BMB are also in the quarters after they defeated Golden Pheasant by five goals to two, Richard Perry scoring twice, Joe Newton, Mike Coward and Rob Poole once.
In the Junior section Duckmanton Community progressed at the expense of Mansfield Sunday League side Shirebrook Wanderers, Gareth Bally scoring twice, taking his season's total to ten goals and Graham Travis once. Oaks FC were also successful but had to work hard to beat Prince Of Wales by three goals to two, Craig Longmore scoring twice, Sean Gardner once.
In the league in ONE Clowne Wanderers moved up to seventh after they won by three goals to one at Eckington Boys, Gareth Lindley, Ant Rowley and Regan Edridge with the winning goals.
Down the years there have been some wonderful examples of individual goal scoring feats and on Sunday TWO leaders AFC Bolsover's Josh Parfitt added his name to the list. Prior to his sides game against Brampton Rovers JMA he had scored eighteen in nine starts, impressive enough, however in this game he ran JMA ragged and hit an astonishing seven goals as they were routed 9-2. On another day Grassmoor Sports Dean Spencer would have made the headlines as his side ravaged Red Lion Whitt Moor, thrashing them 8-2. Nonetheless he has every reason to regard Sunday as a very special day as he produced a fine individual display to score five of his sides goals.
In THREE Creswell Black Diamond went top after they beat Clowne Wanderers Reserves by five goals to two. An excellent game at Pilsley Community saw the hosts narrowly lose out to Hady Villa by three goals to two.
NAPIT FIVE has a new look about it as previous leaders Brimington Utd were beaten for only the second time this season which meant that Brimwood Utd's 6-0 win at Back Lane Palterton against home side Sporting Club moved them into pole position. The victory was fairly a straightforward one with Robbie Grice earning the plaudits with his well taken hat trick, his three being added to by Kyle Perrins, Jack Wynn and Ben Hall. The aforementioned second side to beat Brimington Utd were lowly Royal Oak Rangers who only just pipped them at post, beating them 5-4, Josh Marshall and Alex Offless scoring twice, Jamie Rigby once. Old Whittington MW had a day to forget whilst opponents Holmehall 1st definitely had one to remember as they crushed them, winning by ten goals to one. As Holmehall ran riot Ben Bassett was the ring leader as he hammered four of the ten goals, Lee Bingham scored twice with Stephen Barnett, Richard Start and James Wooten helping themselves to a goal each. In stark contrast there was nothing to choose between Spartans and opponents Travellers Clowne who equally shared six goals and the points.
Fidlers Rest missed the chance to go top of SIX as they were, somewhat, surprisingly beaten at home 3-1 by Hasland Community Eagles for whom Taylor Hoole, Jordan Jackson and Adam Plant scored. Bottom side Evolution claimed a point in a 3-3 draw with Renishaw MW Reserves thanks to goals from Jack Warwick and Lewis Warwick who scored twice. Gavin Poulton, Chris Clayton and Dye scored Renishaw's goals. Gardeners Clay Cross moved into mid table after goals from Mick Lunn, Martin Scoffings, Andy Wright and Craig Young saw them beat Holmehall 2nd by four goals to two.
In SEVEN runaway leaders Brimington Utd Shoes completed half of their league programme with their tenth win from eleven starts which moved them eleven points clear at the top of the division. Win number ten came against Dronfield Town whom they beat by six goals to one. Renishaw Rangers TFC beat Spartans 2nd by five goals to two. Rangers were indebted to Richard Mansell who scored twice for them in the win. He actually scored the first hat trick of his career, unfortunately for him only one of those was for his own side, Spartans, the other two for Rangers being own goals. Last time out Newbold Community Football Training were humbled 7-0 however despite suffering another defeat they produced a much improved performance before eventually going down by the odd goal in five to Squadron Medical.
