Two cup matches to bring you this week.  Firstly, in the Saturday Intermediate Cup, Loughborough Students Development put Dunton & Broughton United to the sword on Saturday in their re-arranged tie, winning 7-0 at Holywell Park. Ashden Shortland came off the bench to score a hat-trick, with fellow sub Louis Green, Josh Bryan, Jake Folwell and Callum Phelps also scoring, as the Students booked their quarter-final berth, facing Mountsorrel Amateurs on 4 January.

Wednesday night was the final second round tie in the Everards Tiger League Cup, as Ellistown hosted Mountsorrel Amateurs. The Div1 visitors made a mockery of the gap between them and the hosts, as Anderson Tomas and Oliver Rowley scored in the first half to send the visitors into the changing rooms 2-1 up, Joshua Thompson scoring for Ellistown in the first period.

That made for a tasty second half, with the referee just keeping control, and Mountsorrel clinging onto the lead until 15 minutes from time, when Thompson scored his second to equalise. That set up a grandstand finish, which Ellistown took after sub Matt Hart scored the winner ten minutes from time, Ellistown winning a ding-dong cup tie 3-2 to progress to the quarters.

That concludes the cup action for 2024, with only one Senior Cup quarter final still outstanding, likely to be played now in the New Year due to an ongoing process which is still 'sub judice'. League action resumes this weekend, we'll see you then.
