In the North Hants Intermediate Cup Quarter Final Hook, leaders of the Premier Division, made their exit beaten 3-2 at home to Broughton.

They went two goals down in the first half, but did pull things round when Andy Parker was brought down in the box and Aaron King scored from the spot kick and Peter Pike drove in a 30 yard free kick to level. It was in the 80th minute when Broughton scored the winner, substitute Dan Lang scored the third from just outside the penalty area. The other Quarter Final was not played as Rising Sun DC found they had only six players available to travel to Barlow’s Park to meet Tadley Calleva A., so presumably as is the usual practice, they will concede the tie and so Bradley Nash’s team will get a walkover into the Semi Final, the only Basingstoke League side left in the competition.

The Quarter Finals of the Basingstoke B Cup had a shock result when Winklebury Wizards, who are enjoying a good season after joining the league from Boys football this season, were knocked out by Herriard Sports. They started well enough by taking a fifth minute lead when Josh Dickens got behind the square Herriard defence and put away a cross from Daniel Goodyear. Herriard came back five minutes later to level when Michael Higgs lobbed keeper Darren Gilbanks following a pass from Sam Weber from 20 yards out. Gillbanks then saved a penalty kick from Stuart Minton before in the 55th minute Weber waltzed through the Wizards back four to give his side a 2-1 lead and this was extended when Martin Miles beat Gillbanks with another 20 yard effort. In the 66th minute Hugo Carlos beat keeper Doug Gray with a direct free kick as Wizard mounted several attacks when Gray excelled in keeping out shots from Carlos and Scotty Winterborne. It was Weber who made sure of a Semi Final spot when he broke from the half way line and took on Gilbanks. Basingstoke Athletic who should be favourites to win this cup, managed to win against Bounty United, but just the one goal settled it. Neither team enjoyed the conditions, played in heavy rain throughout and surface water on the pitch at Brighton Hill. It was in the 53rd minute when the lone goal came. Nathan Read took a corner from the right, it was dummied by Jamie Louton and fell to Matt Button who drilled it low past keeper Richard Vinn from inside the six yard box.. Bounty felt they had a couple of good penalty shouts turned down and also forced a couple of saves from Sean Martin, but on the day the conditions played a big part.
Basingstoke United pulled off a good win away to AFC Aldermaston A by winning 5-3. Kevin Flain gave the home side a tenth minute lead when he broke clear and beat keeper Dan Chapman in a one on one, but United came back strongly to take a 3-1 lead. In the 25th Jamie Lucas took advantage of a terrible mix up in the Aldermaston defence and after Callum Silcox gave them the lead following good play by Ash Pearce, Dan Southgate went on a solo run to score the third. Before half time Aldermaston had a penalty, conceded by Gavin Harkness and Tony Johnson made no mistake and they were level in the 54th when Flain scored his second. It was in the 75th when United regained their lead when Southgate went on another solo run, taking on three men before beating keeper Darren Heath and they made sure of a passage through when Ryan Bennett scored the fifth from a free kick. Preston Candover proved too strong fro lowly placed Sherborne St John Reserves and cruised through with an 8-1 away win. Kyle Buckland completed a straight hat trick, Mike Fuller scored the fourth and a Ben Coe penalty made it 5-0. For Sherborne Nick Coombs hit the post in the 38th from a Tim Harrison cross and Connor Perris rattled both he post and bar from Kevin Merritt assisting, before Connor Perrin scored in the 70th to pull a goal back. Buckland then netted his fourth, Fuller his second and finally Rob Stait finished off the rout.

The first of the Quarter Finals of the Basingstoke A Cup was due to be played at Preston Candover, but Hook Reserves called off as they were unable to raise a team. Basingstoke Royals will now be awarded the game and will be in the Semi finals.
