Maghull eroded Mossley Hill Ath.'s lead at the top of the Go2Day West Cheshire League's Division One to a single point, after efforts from Adam Hammill and Darren Brannigan secured a narrow 2-1 victory at relegation threatened Vauxhall Motors Res., who replied via Adetunji Ogundeji and on Friday evening, third placed Newton returned to winning ways, when they eclipsed Aintree Villa 4-1. Jackson Ellis, Alex Stranach, Paddy Jones and Joseph Williams shared the goals. John Bucknall bagged Villa's consolation, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD. Capenhurst Villa's run of form continued, thanks to a 4-3 result over fourth placed challengers, FC Bootle, confirmed by goals from Matty Vickers, Jamie Easton, Matty Scott and Terry Watts. The visitors had Dylan Westerside, Jay Winsor and Tom Ward on target while two goal Colm Lynch anchored Rainhill Town to a 2-0 decision over Helsby. Despite a Joel Cotgrave strike, fifth placed Mersey Royal capitulated 2-1 to replies from Marshalls' Jude Mante and Jack Ward. Elsewhere, the points were divided, after an effort from Litherland Remyca Res.' Jake Preston was negated by a reply from Ellesmere Port Town's Todd Reid.
In Division Two, second placed South Liverpool Res. had to come from behind and were indebted to an Adam Shelton hat trick, which salvaged a point from a competitive encounter at West Kirby. Ben Hawitt struck twice with Luke Warrington also on the scoresheet for the Marine Park outfit. Mossley Hill Ath.U23's recorded their eighth win of the season at the expense of third placed Hooton. Jonathan Liddle (2) Asher Duncan, Adil Mohammed and Mo Alsaqqa found the net in a 5-1 triumph. The Division's leading marksman, Joel Whalley netted for the visitors. Goals from Jacob Armstrong, Declan Roberts and Connor Horrigan steered Neston Nomads to a comfortable 3-0 win against Higher Bebington Kelma.
Saturday's Division Three action saw Helsby Res. bolster their outside chances of promotion, courtesy of a 3-0 result over Frodsham Park JFC, confirmed by efforts from Adam Riley, Sam Telford and Tom Brady and it was celebration time for title favourites, Cammell Laird Res.1907 who went back to the top after they edged a 3-2 win at Runcorn Sports Res., thanks to goals from Kieran Hughes (2) and Dale Atherton. The hosts responded through Ethan Hanson and Steve Butler.
In the Youth Division, there was no stopping Vauxhall Motors' Jimmy Dawson, who struck four times in his side's 6-0 verdict over Maghull. Josh Jeffery and Harvey Simpson were the other goalscorers.
West Cheshire flag bearers, FC Kirkby made light of their LCFA Junior Cup 3rd round clash with St. Margaret's Old Boys and breezed to an 8-0 victory, inspired by a Danny Downes hat trick. Further efforts from Brendan Rawcliffe, Charlie Bennett, Mike McHugh, Eren Bresweth and James Tyrer completed the scoreline.
The all-West Cheshire clash between Maghull B and South Liverpool in the LCFA Saturday Youth Cup 3rd round was settled 4-3 in Maghull's favour, with Khai Deary, Nathan Moffitt, Adam Ross and John Clarkson hitting the target for the victors Kian Skinley, Jack Colburn and Shea Wordsworth were accredited with South's goals. Jack Coll's hat trick and an effort from Charlie Monaghan sparked Neston Nomads' 4-1 victory over AFC Knowsley in the Youth Plate 2nd round and also through are Athletico Blues, who had Alex Callister and Isaiah Emegbuonye on the mark in a 2-0 result at Litherland Remyca.
