Round up 21 August 2010
Maghull are the early leaders in Division 1 following Saturdays emphatic 5-0 victory over champions Cammell Laird Reserves who have lost all 3 of their games. Tom Foley and Michael Boyle were amongst the goals while Foley was joined on the score sheet by Mark Gregory in the midweek 2-0 defeat of Marshalls. Also on 9 points are West Kirby with Adam Lea hitting a quick fire hat trick in Wednesdays 3-2 success at Lairds while Robbie Stewart was a 2 goal man in the Seasiders 5-1 win at Marshalls at the weekend. Helsby lie 3rd after their 4-1 home triumph over Vauxhall Reserves. Adam Newbolt notched an excellent treble for the hosts and he was also on target as Helsby edged out Ellesmere Port by the odd goal in 5 in mid week. After their opening day defeat, Heswall bounced back with successive victories. A David Swaine double steered them to a 2-1 win at Newton [Kieran Fleetwood] on Wednesday while James Kenyon performed a similar feat in Saturdays 2-0 victory over Marine Reserves. Newton suffered another home reversal when Colin McDonald netted the only goal of the game for visiting Southport Trinity who 3 days earlier had gone down 2 -0 at Marine [Lewis Francis, Gary Jones]. James Jaggard and a Lee Cairns penalty counted for Willaston when they shared the spoils with Upton [Carl Bishop, Matt Croak] and Andy Roundtree was a 2 goal man for Christleton in their 3-3 draw with Ellesmere Port. Previously Christleton had also finished all square thanks to a 1-1 draw with Vauxhall Reserves while on the same evening Upton AA [Danny Andrews, Simon Andrews] had triumphed 2-0 in their local derby with Blacon YC. Sadly during the week the League were informed of the resignation of Groves FC.
Ashville head Division 2 and their 2-1 success over Mossley Hill Athletic featured strikes by Danny Edwards and Chris Barrow while Craig Griffiths and Ricky Neill joined Edwards in netting in Mondays 3-1 eclipse of Heswall Reserves. Richmond Raith Rovers have won on each of their outings and Rob Madine, 2, & James English helped ease them to a 3-1 defeat of Bronze Social on Saturday having pipped Mallaby 2-1 earlier in the week. A prolific goalscorer in Division 3 last season Paul Hart opened his 2nd Division account when grabbing the only goal of the game as Hale defeated Mossley Hill Athletic and he followed up with a brace in the 3-1 win over Heswall Reserves.
In Division 3 only Helsby Reserves have recorded a 3 game maximum and a single effort from Mark Richards was enough to earn the points at Capenhurst Villa Reserves on Saturday. In contrast Richards along with Mark Hobson & Lee Huizer all notched doubles in the midweek 7-3 success over Ellesmere Port Reserves. Mossley Hill Athletic lie 2nd having shared 4 goals with Ashville Reserves while also on 7 points are Manor Athletic who had a hat trick star in Chris Tolley in the 6-2 defeat of hosts Upton AA Reserves.
Heading the Youth Division are Halewood Town whose Andy Bird, Ton James, Rhys Welsh and Tom Ryan were responsible for the 4-0 win at Ellesmere Port while champions South Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw with Belfry.
