Jubilation for ACOL as they edge past Collegiate OB to win the Connerty Cup on pens
Callum Hunter reporting…
Collegiate OB were on top in the opening 25 minutes and were rewarded for this with a lovely goal with a cut in and cultured finish into the bottom corner.
This lead was short lived however, with an amazing goal for ACOL in the 29th minute after a ball in behind was dispatched clinically with an amazing finish.
There was a Huge chance for Collegiate in the 35th minute with a free kick on the edge of the box, but the effort was hit right at the keeper.
Somehow the score remained level in the 37th minute, an open goal chance was fired at the bar from six yards out by Collegiate.
Collegiate finally took the lead at the end of the first half as a free kick wasn’t cleared properly and was finished from close range following a scramble.
Half time- 2-1. It was a deserved lead for the Collegiate after they dominated the ball and dictated the play in the first half. ACOL will be ruing the concession of a sloppy 2nd goal after they failed to clear a set piece.
There was a huge chance for ACOL to start the second half as a ball was played right across the box but no one was able to drive it home.
This was followed by a great chance for Collegiate to double their lead but the one on one was denied by a great save.
GOAL. 2-2 a ball in behind was stabbed home with a lovely finish by ACOL. Game on.
In the second half it was clear that ACOL seized momentum more and made this much of a competitive and compelling cup final.
3-2. Collegiate. Just as ACOL were starting to seize momentum. A 50-50 challenge falls to the striker who is denied by a save but the follow up is tapped in.
3-3. Wow a late equaliser from a corner was nodded home to keep the cup final alive. What a cup final.
Full time- ACOL win on pens. Heartbreak for Collegiate, losing such a competitive final in the worst way but they should be proud after playing their part in such a brilliant final. As for ACOL, deserved jubilation after they showed great character to come back on multiple occasions before remaining calm to win it on pens.
