Round Up 3 Sept 2011
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E .3 9.2011
An injury time winner which saw Ashvilles Tim Bigland complete a sparkling hat trick cruelly nullified Newtons late comeback in which they had come from 2 goals down to level the scoring in the final 10 minutes of Saturdays absorbing contest. Earlier Bigland had netted some 15 minutes into each half but with Newton enjoying the better of exchanges between the twin strikes they felt justice had been done when David Lynch and Paul Ledsham had struck late on only for Bigland to have the final say. Three days previously Bigland was a 2 goal man as Ashville defeated hosts Vauxhall Motors Reserves 3-1 and this dual successes has returned the Wallasey outfit to the top of the Division 1 table. In another exciting finish at the weekend West Kirby edged 3-2 in front in added time only to have maximum points snatched from their hands when Simon Andrews converted a last gasp spot kick for visitors Upton AA. Lee Healey, 2, and Paul Casey netted for the hosts while Andrews and Steve McGowan had struck earlier for Upton. On Wednesday Jack McDowell was a hat trick hero for 2nd placed Kirby as they eclipsed Cammell Laird Reserves 4-1 while on the same evening Ellesmere Port maintained their excellent start when Mark and Mike Jones posted in the 2-0 victory over Upton. Two home reversals in 48 hours is the tale of woe from Heswall who followed Wednesdays 2-1 defeat at the hands of Southport Trinity [Eric Woodward, Own Goal] by going down 1-0 on Friday to Chester Nomads who had Kieron Smith ghosting in for a 22nd minute winner. Willaston collected their 1st points of the campaign in midweek when a Trevor Worsley strike was enough to overcome Chester Nomads but they were unable to follow up at the weekend as Barry Coventry, Ryan Powell and Phil Duncan registered for Mossley Hill Athletic who ran out 3-0 winners. Three days earlier Mossley [Yusuf Malik, Karl Gornall had inflicted the seasons 1st defeat on Maghull [Lee Tynan] courtesy of a 2-1 success but Maghull bounced back on Saturday when Daniel Dillon hit the games solitary goal at Marshalls who had been 4-1 mid week victors at Marine Reserves. Blacon YC [Damien Rowley] edged their local contest at Christleton on Wednesday but were to finish with 9 men when going down 3-1 at Vauxhalls [Craig Cairns, Tom Craig] at the weekend.
Division 2 table toppers Hale had their 100% record dented by New Brighton whose Jack Corke, Paul Lindfield and Mike McGrath obliged in the odd goal in 5 success while on Tuesday Hale [Paul Hart, Sean Wright, Bradley Williams] triumphed over Maghull Reserves [Mike Cummins,2,] by a similar scoreline. Runcorn Linnets Reserves remain as the only unbeaten team in the division but had to settle for a point from a 3-3 draw with Capenhurst Villa [Cameron Foster, James Ryan, Graeme Davidson]. This followed a 2-0 victory over Prescot Cable Reserves for Linnets [Lewis Buckley, James Cowley, pen,] while 2nd placed Beb Athletic [Chris Drew, Wayne Hulse, Sean Heggarty] recorded a convincing 3-1 win at Heswall Reserves.
Division 3 pacesetters Helsby [Wesley Huizer, Ian Cox] were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Manor Athletic Reserves [John Weatherall, Ian Cox]. This was in contrast to Tuesdays 10-1 thrashing of basement boys Neston Nomads when Huizer was a 5 goal star. Mersey Royals best start for many years was enhanced on Saturday when they leapfrogged over opponents South Liverpool into the runners up spot courtesy of Ryan Youd netting the games only goal.
A double from Maghulls Jordan Lorde cemented his sides top spot berth in the Youth Division as they edged out South Liverpool [Sharif Yusuf] but Lower Breck Boys lost out to a Robert Evans effort for Allerton.
