Form book was turned upside down as Beacon Hill Rovers Res. who are fighting to stay up, secured the Division Three League Cup.

Beacon Hill started the much brighter of the two sides, and within the opening 10 minutes William Sims could have opened the scoring but failed to convert. 5 minutes later and the deadlock was broken. A corner from the right was floated into the Writtle penalty area where an unmarked Jamie Calleja headed powerfully into the far corner of the goal.

Five minutes later and Beacon Hill extended their lead, Adam Barry, broke with some pace down the right, his cross somehow found its way to Sims, who was left with only the keeper to beat.

Beacon Hill continued to exert further pressure on the Writtle goal, Sam Billing saw a header comfortably saved.

It took Writtle almost half an hour before they managed to apply any real pressure on the Beacon Hill goal, The dangerous Sam Mixture broke from the half way line, Souster in the Beacon Hill goal tried the avert the danger, but Mixture was able to get to the ball first and round him with ease, however a slight hesitation allowed Billing to chance to get back and block what would have seen Writtle half the lead.

A bizarre incident on 35 minutes when the Referee signalled the end of the half. The 4th official looked on with some amazement, but after a short period of consultation the game re-started, to the embarrassment of Mr Booty (one to recall for the future!!!).

The “break” seemed to kick start Writtle into life. And on 42 minutes Mixture had halved the lead when he met a far post corner to head home. He was then denied by Souster in the Beacon Hill goal who was called upon the make a fine save, and in added on time, Souster pulled off a great save from a point blank header by Mixture when it looked odds on he would fine an equaliser.

Within the first 5 minutes of the second half two quick goals were scored. As tends to happen at major games, the League Officials were still enjoying their half time refreshments, so missed the first of the two.

Another headed goal from a corner saw Joe Smoker put Beacon Hill two goals to the good, only for Sam Mixture to score again for Writtle. Confusion in the Beacon Hill defence allowed him to haed in his second.

Barry’s pace had been a constant issue for Writtle all evening, Some fine skill allowed him to pull the ball back across goal, but no one was available in black and white to add the final touch. Barry again worked hard to secure possession, this time he picked out Sims, who looked odds on to score, but somehow Groves in the Writtle goal keep the ball out with a remarkable save.

The game ebbed and flowed but the Chelmsford based team could not create any exerted pressure on the Beacon Hill goal as both Billing and Calleja marshalled the Beacon Hill defence with some authority.

Referee signalled the end of the game, after some debate on time !!!!, Beacon Hill lifting the trophy and leaving Writtle to ponder what might have been and thinking of their next final on the 29th
