The first of the Under 8 5 v 5 Match Days takes place at Plymstock School

The Devon Junior Minor League are celebrating their first Under 8 5 v 5 match day which took place this weekend with 40 players taking part from four clubs within the league. The emphasis on the 5 v 5 match days is to provide young players the opportunity to play a number of games in a safe and fun environment. Chris French the leagues development officer said “not all clubs have the volunteer base or the number of players to play weekly fixtures at this age group; we wanted to offer these clubs and young players the opportunity to be part of the league and play against other teams”. This weekend was the first of a number of match days organised by the league which will include Futsal over the winter months to assist with the young player’s development. This format of football is inline with The FA’s Youth Review which starts to be implemented across the country next season, which will see Under 7 and Under 8 football being 5 v 5 with no league tables or results.
