Basingstoke A Cup Semi Final

It is Hook, the current holders and eight times winners of the Basingstoke A Cup, who will meet Tadley Calleva A in the Final to be played on Saturday 18th March at the Winklebury Football Complex.. On Saturday at Brighton Hill they defeated Basingstoke United 5-1 1 in the Semi Final, thanks to a hat trick from Dan Mouradian. Dan has broken into the starting eleven five matches ago and has already netted eight goals in that period, making his tally 12 for the season. Andy Parker netted his 16th goal and Tom Davies scored the fifth. The lone goal for United was scored by Ashley Pearce. in the 70th minute.

North Hants Saturday Junior Cup Semi Final.

Twentyten Reserves are the surprise finalists in the North Hants Junior Cup after beating Winklebury Wizards in a penalty shootout 3-1 after the score after 90 minutes was 3-3.
They now have a very tough game in the Final at Whitchurch on 5th April when they meet the current Division One leaders Basingstoke Royals. Hero in the shootout was Aaron Farmer who scored the third and decider, but their 16 years old keeper Sam Morgan played his part by saving two of the penalties. Twentyten went two goals up through Dan Hancock and a Franklin Spacagna penalty, but Wizards stormed back to level when George Lagden scored from the penalty for handball and they drew level when Dan Hargood took a pass from Liam Grainger in the 55th. . Hancock scored his second to regain the lead, but in the closing stages Wizards equalized when Scott Large netted following another Grainger cross. In the shootout only Ryan Watts was successful for Wizards while 50 years old Mark Smith, Jack Barrett and finally Aaron Farmer made no mistake to see the underdogs through.

Basingstoke Saturday League

Division One

Twentyten first team moves into second spot in the Division One table after beating AFC Aldermaston Reserves 4-1 away. Joe Osborne gave them a 30th minute lead and Aldermaston held out until the 50th when Joe Hill made it 2-0 with a deflected shot. Hill then scored again, the cross coming from James Arnold and giving him a simple tap in.
Aldermaston then came back with a headed goal from Dene Da’Bred Twentyten added a fourth in the 80th when Carl Pearson, completely unmarked scored from a Charlie Manning cross.


The three points Bounty United won from this action packed 5-4 win against Basingstoke Athletic, may be enough to see them avoid the drop, with Athletic now looking the most likely candidates with just one point and bottom. It was however Athletic taking a 20th minute lead through Dave Trevelion from a Paul Walsh-Taylor assist. Matt Love was tripped in the box and Andy Darmody converted the spot kick to level. Matt Love then put away a cross from Steve Bucksey to put Bounty in front, but Matt Stillwell set up Walsh-Taylor to see the scores level at the break. Bounty then went ahead when a shot from Bucksey was parried and Love followed up to complete his hat trick and Andy Neal soon added another. A shot from Walsh-Taylor deflected in off Lawrence Benge to make it 5-3 and when a cross from Trevelion was netted by Tim Webb, Bounty had to hold out the remaining four minutes.

Division Two

Herriard Sports retained their 100% league record with their twelfth win. It against the on form AFC Berg who last lost a league game back in September. 2-0 was result and it shows Manager Craig Lewington had a fight on his hands securing maximum points. Both goals were scored by Matt Goodman, the first coming in the 26th minute when a 50 yard free kick from Chris Dobbie caused havoc in the six yard box and Goodman scrambled it in the net. Berg caused some anxious moments and Dave Purt in the Herriard goal had to be at his best in keeping a clean sheet. It was in the 63rd when the second came. Goodman took a free kick some 50 yards out, Dobbie looked like getting on the end of it, he missed the ball and it ended up beating keeper Tordon Kirrage.

The Basingstoke Labour Club was held to a 1-1 draw against AFC Aldermaston A, a blow to their chances of promotion. It was the visitors keeper Dan Nocella who kept his side in the game in the first half, with a couple of outstanding saves in the and it remained goal less until the 60th minute. Matt Kelly scoring after good build up by Aaron John’s and the final pass from Nat Read, who has recently transferred from Basingstoke United. Labour seemed to lose the midfield and Aldermaston improved, with Ashley Jones hitting the post, Tony Johnson going close and the pressure continued with the equalizer coming five minutes from time, a sweet volley from Jones.

With Labour now out of the running, it is Overton United B who are the main threat to Herriard’s Championship hopes. They soundly defeated bottom of the table Chineham 7-0 at Berrydown where Wat Jones scored a hat trick. It was Kyle Buckland who opened the scoring after five minutes following a pass from Scotty Winterborne. Jones opened his account in the tenth from a penalty after Winterborne was brought down. Chineham held out until the 50th minute when Jones from out wide crossed for Buckland to make it 3-0. It was two minutes later when they added another, this time Jacob Burrows after a one two with Winterborne. A mistake by keeper Nick Tucker led to Jones scoring his second and after Winterborne chipped Tucker for the sixth, Jones netted his third from a penalty kick. Overton are still seven points adrift of the leaders, but Manager Peter Broom is till hopeful of catching them, but his eyes are also on the Hampshire Junior B Cup Final at Portchester where they will meet AFC Berg on 8th April.

Origin completed the double over Longdog Soldiers. In January these two lowly placed clubs, both newcomers to the league this season and it was a narrow 5-4 win for Dave Hawkins side. On Saturday it was a more decisive outcome, with Origin winning 4-0. Hawkins had to sign three players on the day and it took time for them to blend, however they did take the lead in the 20th when a Soldiers defender put through his own goal following a corner kick. It was John Gurney who made it 2-0 in the 66th and Nathan Ray, one of their new men, made it 3-0 from a penalty and the fourth was from another own goal, from a poor back pass.
