Cass smashes treble as West Kirby beat cup rivals

IN a thrilling Umbro semi-final West Kirby saw a three-goal lead evaporate before sealing a 6-3 victory over second division title hopefuls Ashville.
Carl Maughan opened the Kirby account after only two minutes, quickly followed 10 minutes later by Matty Cass?s first of his hat-trick. Kevin Ryan powered a free-kick home after 32 minutes. Ashville struck back and after missing an open goal a Kieran Fleetwood header opened their account. Just before the interval Adam Johnson added a second for Villa. In the second period a mistake by the Ashville let in Cass. Johnson pulled it back to 4-3 before two late goals from Chris Riley and Cass sealed the victory.
In the first division Cammell Laird got maximum points from their two outings as they were 3-1 winners over Blacon Youth Club in midweek with goals from Jonathon Pringle, Alan Bull and Jamie Kenyon. Then another convincing win against Marine Reserves with Jamie Kenyon bagging another two and Dave Rudge adding a third.
Mark Ryan netted the only goal for Castrol Social against near neighbours Vauxhall Motors Reserves.
Manager of the month for February Dave Nethercott saw his second division Helsby side stutter to a 3-0 win over Poulton Victoria Reserves, Craig Dewhurst fired in an unstoppable volley midway through the first half. With neither side looking dangerous Gary Lunt beat the offside trap on the hour mark to net a second, with time running out Lunt hit a superb third goal. The win keeps Helsby five points clear at the top.
A brace from Josh Williams kept Ashville in second place as they overcame lowly Grange Athletic. Bronze Social moved out of the relegation zone after Peter Wright (2) and Richard Kelly netted against AFC Bebington Athletic.
The home side had Richard Harrison and Matty Earp on target.In the third division leaders FC Pensby were made to work hard at Richmond Jacobs, with two goals from Owen Davies securing the points after Barry Tamarco netted for the home side.
Marshalls have rediscovered their goal scoring form after netting four times at Upton A.A. Reserves, Gary Powell, David Powell, John Birch and Graham Sunners all finding the net.
In the youth division in a fairly even game at AFC Bebington the home side mastered the blustery conditions better to take the points against Mayfield. Two second half goals against the wind from Mathew Evans and Joe Smith sealed the game.
