Review of games played on 27/10.

There was some excellent football played in the Division One games.

Offerton Green and Nth Reddish WMC on a perfect morning for football served up a cracking ninety minutes on St. Thomas’s Offy showed their intentions in the first five minutes when Club’s keeper Cameron Gresty had to be at his best to push away Aiden Dwyer’s goal bound shot, he then block James Webb’s rebound effort. Play flowed from end to end keeping both defences on their toes. Offy got a break when a shot from Wasim Akram was going wide until it hit an unfortunate defender for an OG. Only the bar denied James Webb a secondl, his header bouncing clear from a Tyrone Turner cross. But minutes later no keeper could have kept out Turner’s ‘thunderbolt’ that bulged the net for Offy’s second. A third followed just before half time, a shot from Wasim Akram wrong footing Grundy. Within a minute of the restart a corner from Lewis Bush was firmly headed home by Alex Philpot. The play from both teams kept the large crowd entertained who witnessed another top class strike this time from Offy’s McKenzie Cookson to end the scoring. Only a good save from Ritchie Torkington near the end denied Lewis Bush a second goal for the Club.

Stockport County Supporters came out on top by the odd goal in seven away at Winton Wanderers. They went 3-1 up with a George Baker twenty yarder, and goals either side of half time from Nathan Thomas, his second from a defence splitting pass from Fin Blewitt. With a minute left and the score-line at 3-3 up popped Thomas to complete his hat trick to clinch the win with a m-o-m performance.

Mountfield Rovers got their act together at last to get the win over Stockport Vikings. It was an end to end game throughout. Mountfield opened the scoring, Ethan Robson with a good run down the wing, crossed for Tom Haddow to score. Vikings got their deserved equaliser before the break. With the game evenly balanced it was always going to be a ‘who scored next’ affair for the three points. It was decided by the head Mountfields Tom Hodkinson from a corner.

Cheadle and Railway shared the honours in a two all draw. Midway through the even first half Ben Reeves put the home side in front from a Reece Rudman cross. Just before half time John Sarsfield put Rail level with a penalty. In the second half Cheadle were guilty of not taking their chances but were also denied on a number of occasions by the Railway keeper Dane Smith. Rudman had him beaten to restore Cheadle’s lead but a second penalty from Sarsfield got his side a point.

Unfortunately I didn’t receive any information from Hillgate, Northenden, Romiley or Cosmos.

In Division Two Leaders Reddish Phoenix were a goal down at half-time at home to Bosden Farm Rovers, Connor Ferguson their scorer. Phoenix drew level through Liam Hindle then Sam Findlow put them in front. Bosden’s Keith Atherton caught the Phoenix keeper off his line to level the scores. Liam Hindle put Phoenix back in front and Colm Burke ended the scoring with his side’s fourth goal.

Second placed Edgeley Villa had a comfortable 4-0 win at home against Eden Park scoring twice in each half. Howie Thomas-Leech cheekily put the ball between the Eden Park keeper’s legs for the first. Mikey Brown darted down the left and squared the ball for Tom Hannan to net the second. Hannan was then fouled in the area and Kev Boswell coolly slotting home the penalty. A rush of blood from Villa’s keeper Phil Dalton saw him upend Eden’s centre forward Keitan Shergil outside the area and got himself sent off. The ten men held out and even got a fourth goal with another Boswell penalty.

Third placed Stockport Orion kept their unbeaten record intact but had to be content with a share of the spoils in the three all draw with Cheadle Hulme Galaxy. Orion found themselves two goals down, James Longshaw and Cameron Leigh the Galaxy scorers. An OG pulled one back for Orion who then drew level with Zak Grainger’s goal. Sam Chambers then put them in front with a superb strike and it was left to Galaxy’s Will Harris who stayed cool to score with his penalty and get his side a deserved point.

Higher Poynton stay third after their win at Man & Chorlton. They led at half time Jordan Davies low shot from twelve yards. Pete Chignel added the second after a shot from Marcus Graham had hit the post. Adam Roberts pulled one back for Chorlton from Arnold Atsivor’s pass. Graham did better with his next effort completing the scoring with Poynton’s third. A mention to both keepers Chorlton’s George O’Hara and Poynton’s Phil Chignel who had both made some excellent stops.

Edgeley Hatters found themselves 3-1 down away at Bosden Farm Albion and only for a penalty save by keeper Ellis Whitehead it could have been four. Brandon Langley, Kade Burden with a curling free kick and a Amaan Zaman header were Bosden’s scorers. Kenzie Daniels beat the home keeper to the ball to score the Hatters second goal. Liam Atkinson made it all square with his goal. Daniels found the top corner of the home goal to put Hatters in front. He then added his second after the home keeper had been sent off, Oliver Lomas ended the scoring.

Didsbury Reds were the day’s top scorers finding the Cheshire Milkmen’s net eight times without reply. The Reds who over the last few games have had a shortage of goalkeeper’s had both their keepers available again. Stand in keeper Sean Nolan enjoying his freedom showed he had not lost any of his goal scoring flair by netting a hat trick, James Martin (2), Elliot Brown, James Worthington and Franklin Sibanda adding the others.

Adsood had a comfortable7-1 win away at Woodhouse Park Avengers. Anthony Brindley and Sam Melling shared four of the goals, Craig Egan, Josh Alcron and Nico brown adding the others.
