Sunday League draws to a close

The finals of the Ace Sports Chatsworth Cup and the ACL Hutson Cup took place on Sunday at the home of Clay Cross FC. Both games were well contested in front of large crowds with Woodside prevailing in the Chatsworth Cup, beating New Inn Newton by two goals to one. In the Hutson Gary Beckett, Carl Germany and Danny Stokes fired Fidlers Rest to a 3-0 win over North Wingfield MW.

Hasland FC’s fantastic season continued as a 2-0 victory over Britannia confirmed them as NAPIT ONE CHAMPIONS, the title adding to their earlier Derbyshire Sunday Cup success and they remain one game away from completing a memorable treble if they can beat Brampton Rovers in the final of the Dey and Co Alma Cup which takes place at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on Friday 17th with a 7pm Kick off. Also in ONE Creswell Seniors drew 0-0 with Hollingwood.

Killamarsh Juniors clinched the NAPIT TWO title on a dramatic last day. Previously un-beaten Clowne Wanderers provided the opposition, going into the game leading the table. It was they who should have gone ahead early in the game but they squandered a guilt edged opportunity when they missed an easy chance followed by another glaring miss shortly afterwards. They did make the breakthrough moments later however when they were awarded a free kick just outside the Juniors’ penalty area from which Anthony Rowley eventually forced the ball home. Parity was restored in the opening minute of the second half when Montel Kamara scored and a second goal from Mathew Edge put Juniors ahead. The game almost had a twist in the tale however as Wanderers forced three corners in the last couple of minutes but once again their finishing let them down as incredibly they missed the target from a yard.

NAPIT THREE CHAMPIONS AFC Walton were beaten in their final game, 4-2 by Brickmakers whilst in FOUR Dronfield Woodhouse drew 1-1 with Pilsley, Morton scoring for Woodhouse, Cave for Pilsley.

In SIX Brimington Club were beaten 3-1 by Clowne Wanderers Reserves whilst in EIGHT Grassmoor Sports Reserves shared the points with Miners and Diners as they drew 1-1.

The Final of the Dey and Co Alma Cup, featuring Hasland and Brampton Rovers, takes place at The Proact Stadium on Friday May 17, the game kicking off at 7pm.
