New Inn and Chineham Cup Clash

In the first full programme for several weeks, there were no cancellations caused by inclement weather on Sunday. New Inn entertained Chineham in the opening round of the Bernard Cornish Cup. Darren Slade and Nat Osborne netted for New Inn in a tight 2-1 victory. Kieron Alleyne scored Chineham's consolation. This was New Inn's first win in four games.

There were a number of cup games played which had been delayed in the past couple of weeks.

RAF Odiham Blades lost at home 1-9 to rampant Eastleigh-based side Boyatt Wood Wanderers of The City of Southampton league in the Hampshire Sunday Junior A Cup.

Basing United narrowly lost 3-2 away at Twinings of Andover in the North Hants John Ward Cup.

Kaiser Wessex lost 0-7 at home to so-far unbeaten Test Valley side Barton Stacey in the Basingstoke Kelvin Cup.

Oakley lost 5-2 away at Nether Wallop in the Andover Presidents Cup.

Also in action in the Andover Presidents Cup, Republic of Chineham narrowly lost at home 2-3 to in-form visitors AFC Wolversdene, who have won six games in a row.

Basingstoke Saints played hosts to Dayers Fine Foods in a Division 1 league match. The visitors took a first half lead through Mark Lewyer, which remained the score at the interval. Saints stepped up their game in the second half and soon equalised before taking the lead 2-1. Dayers pegged them back to level again with a George Langden strike, but then two late goals from the home side secured the points in a 4-2 win. Saints' goals came from Anthony Pendlebury with a brace, Rick Pike with a spectacular overhead kick, and Liam James. This was Saints' first home win of the season.

Lamb Inn entertained South View and led 1-0 at half-time, the goal scored by Harry Rudge, an ex-South View player. The visitors didn't feel too dishearten at the break, having missed enough chances chances during the opening half to provide hope of a result. In fact, Ashley Roberts equalised early in the second half with a goal direct from his free kick. Alex Lee later came on from the substitute's bench and caused havoc up front for South View and got a deserved winning goal after making his own chance to score. The result 1-2 to South View meant a first league defeat for Lamb Inn and their first reverse at home in any competition this season.

In Division 2 Hampshire Irons lost narrowly 2-3 to Oakley Reserves. This was Irons' third straight home defeat. For Oakley Reserves, having got their first win last time out, have turned the corner as winners in consecutive victories.

North Warnborough Two were beaten 1-2 by UWS, who maintain their unbeaten away record.

Chineham Athletic and AFC Golden Lion cancelled themselves out in a 2-2 draw in their Division 3 match. Steve Hartwell and Ben Owen scored for the Athletic and Ryan Upton and Jamir Miah netted for the visitors.

DG Athletic picked up their first league point of the season in a 3-3 home draw against Chineham Reserves. Liam Rump, Kirk Goode and Neil Padwell did the business for DG, while Paul Marsh and Serge Holland, with a brace, levelled for Chineham Reserves.

Eastrop Eagles took on Soldiers Return Reserves, with the home side taking the lead after just 15 minutes, which remained the score up to half-time. Then, almost from the restart they nailed a 2-0 lead, leaving Soldiers a mountain to climb. The visitors continued to maintain a closely-contested match and got their reward 12 minutes from end with a Josh Buckingham strike. Soldiers continued to press with two or three chances created in the last few minutes, but not enough to deflect the score from a 2-1 home win. Eastrop Eagles' scorers were Pete Davies and Paul Adams. Eagles go from third to top, leapfrogging two sides who were without league commitments this weekend.
