HAMPSHIRE VS HERTFORDSHIRE

Hampshire Colleges scored twice in stoppage time to steal a 2-2 draw from their second English Schools FA South East County League match against Hertfordshire at Alton.
It looked as though Hampshire might pay dearly for fluffing a series of early second half chances when Hertfordshire scored twice in five minutes to make a 2-0 lead.
But Hampshire refused to give up and, moments after the referee had indicated the games was into added time, Peter Symonds’ Theo Wolfarth clawed a goal back after a free kick from inspirational Sparsholt midfielder Ryan Penny had been beaten out.
Remarkably, with only second remaining, Hampshire snatched a dramatic – and deserved equaliser – through Bermudian Enrique Russell, who smashed the ball into the top corner after some good work by Portsmouth’s Henry Jordan.
“It was a mirror image of Queen’s Park Rangers’ Championship match against Brentford the previous evening, when QRP scored twice in stoppage time to draw 2-2,” smiled Hampshire coach Luke Hampton.
“With two late goals it really felt like a win, but in truth, more composure in front of goal would have seen Hampshire win the game comfortably.”
It was Hampshire’s second draw in the group – they forced a goalless draw in Kent last month – the result putting added emphasis on Monday’s ESFA Under-18 Cup tie against Gloucestershire at Cirencester Town.
“We beat Surrey 5-0 last game out and need to win this one to keep our season bubbling,” Hampton emphasised.
