Mossley Hill Athletic raced thirteen points clear at the top of Division 1, after they eclipsed nearest rivals, Maghull 2-0
MID-WEEK ACTION .......... Tuesday 2 April From a keenly contested South Wirral derby, involving both clubs in a battle for survival in the Go2Day West Cheshire League's Division One, honours were shared after efforts from Capenhurst Villa's Josh McEwan and Steve Rowlands were negated by a smart double from Vauxhall Motors Res.' Jay Harvey. With just four points separating the bottom four clubs, the Motormen, having played more games than their relegation rivals, are in a difficult position, and must hope that results elsewhere go in their favour as they face an anxious run-in to the season, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
Wednesday 3 April In contrast, Division One leaders, Mossley Hill Ath., drew ten points clear at the top, after putting Helsby to the sword in an 8-1 rout, confirmed by efforts from Caleb Jones (2) Joe Hornby (2) Ben Jones (2) Nathen Peet and Connor Anderson. That victory bolstered Mossley's chances of landing the top flight title for the first time. Owen Kucharski bagged Helsby's consolation. Friday 5 April Despite Tuesday’s valuable point against Vauxhall Motors Res., Capenhurst Villa returned to action at third placed challengers, FC Bootle, and paid a heavy price when goals from Shaun Harris (2) Isaac Jones, Lewis O'Reilly, Jacob Jones and Jamie Alty sealed a 6-0 result for the hosts.
WEEKEND ACTION.............. Heswall received much needed encouragement after they overcame fellow strugglers, Chester Nomads 2-0, courtesy of a goal apiece from Dean Nunn and Liam Grealis and escaped from bottom spot in Division One. The same scoreline, highlighted by goals from Jude Mante and Callum Hodgkinson earned Marshalls maximum spoils from their trip to Mersey Royal while leaders, Mossley Hill Ath. raced thirteen points clear at the top, after they eclipsed nearest rivals, Maghull 2-0, thanks to efforts from Connor Anderson and Will Maddock.
In Division Two leaders Mallaby, opened the scoring through Danny Brookes, but an inept display led to their third consecutive defeat in their push for promotion, after replies from Salim Djabi and Lacey Kwass saw the visitors emerge 2-1 victors. That result enhanced second placed South Liverpool's title claims, following a 4-0 victory at Neston Nomads. West Kirby's promising run continued thanks to a 2-0 decision over Maghull Res. with Lewis Handford and Ben Hawitt on target.
Saturday's Division Three action saw FC Kirkby top score on the day, Brendan Rawcliffe (2) Danny Downes (2) Liam Johnstone, Josh Downes, Jay Tyrer and Craig Johnson sharing the goals in an 8-0 verdict over Rainhill Town Res. as Kirkby moved to within five points of current pacesetters, Cammell Laird 1907 Res. Tom Jackson netted for Frodsham Park JFC but it was the visitors, Poulton Vics who profited, efforts from Jack Waddicar, Ethan Sheen and an own goal cementing a 3-1 win. A solitary strike from Tom Brady was enough, as Helsby Res. came away with all three points from their tussle with Heswall U23's while Harrison Cooper (2) Matty Vickers, Matty Hickman and Gabe Kwateng shared the goals, as Capenhurst Villa Res. beat Runcorn Sports Res. 5-2. Steve Brittles and Luca Tron scored for the visitors.
New Youth Division leaders are Athletico Blues, who had Baden Clarendon and George Murray on the mark, before a late winner from Finnbar McGovern clinched a 3-2 result over previous leaders Cammell Laird 1907. The Shipbuilders replied via Jack Gordon and Leo Patten. Josh Abbot's hat trick was supplemented by further goals from Brandon Hackett (2) Stan Davies, and Lewis Greenhalgh as West Kirby Utd. savoured a 7-0 result over Mossley Hill Ath. in the Youth Division. South Liverpool pulled off a superb 3-0 win at third placed challengers, Maghull B, but efforts from Eric Thompson and Dylan Riley failed to prevent Litherland Remyca from capitulating 3-2 to replies from Neston Nomads' George Kelly, Callum Spence and Thomas Davis.
