On June 4th I will be cycling one of the Tour De France iconic mountains ranges, The Alpe d'Huez. It is one of the great and most difficult climbs of the Alps and of the Tour.
For cyclists, Alpe d'Huez is the climb of mythical status. Since 1952 it has been climbed 23 times by the Tour de France.
Why am I doing this? For the challenge and to raise money for the Parkinson’s disease Society, an organisation that helped my late father with his condition.
One person in every 500 has Parkinson's. That's about 127,000 people in the UK . People with Parkinson's don't have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brain have died. The main symptoms of Parkinson's are tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement. Parkinson’s can cause tremendous discomfort and make life pretty miserable.
