In a league programme greatly reduced by cup ties, Division 1 table trailers, Ellesmere Port with new manager Mark Trigg at the helm, played host to the team immediately above them, Hale. The visitors drew 1st blood when Brad Williams tapped home from close range in the 17th minute. Half time was approaching when Port leveled courtesy of Ryan Nicoll. On the hour mark Hale regained the lead, Andy Cashmore netting after running onto a through ball, only for 17 year old debut boy Hadyn Cooper to complete a 2-2 score line when registering a fine individual goal with 12 minutes remaining. There was an 8 goal thriller at Maghull as Ian Smith,2, John McGuire and an own goal counted for the hosts with opponents Christleton claiming a point thanks to Jack Ford,2, Gary McFadden and Darren Coil. On Friday evening, leaders Marine Reserves slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Mossley Hill Athletic who had Dave Smiley and Ryan Powell obliging. Division 2 promotion chasers, Mallaby, had to settle for a share of the spoils as Gerard Mullen wiped out an earlier goal from Maghull Reserves Chris Nation. Leaders South Liverpool edged home 2-1 with Cameron Dalton and Tom Kinsella bettering a Dave Bowe effort for visiting West Kirby Reserves. Heswall Reserves lie in 3rd place after Jay Thompson and Colin Cunliffe posted in their 2-1 away success over Prescot Cable Reserves while Marshalls [Grant Cox, Tyrone OHare, Kenny Gambo] got the better of host side Mossley Hill Reserves [Phil Duncan, Shane Coughlan] by the odd goal in 5. Vassili Poza led the way as Hale Reserves gained a 4-0 verdict over Manor Reserves in Division 3, Christleton Reserves [Joe Gillespie] and Belfry [Jordan Stafford] cancelled one another out in a 1-1 draw while Damien McGinnigle was the solitary marksman as Capenhurst Villa Reserves defeated local rivals Ellesmere Port Reserves.
Cheshire Amateur Cup holders, Heswall, advanced to round 3 of this seasons competition when Matty Johnson,2, and Chris Adamson struck in their 3-0 defeat of Runcorn Linnets Reserves and Carl Murphy,2, Steve McCann and Jay Clare were on target as Ashville ran out 4-2 winners at Spurley Hey. Vauxhall Reserves [Graeme Davidson,2, Ben Smith, Tom Craig] visited the constituency of in the news George Osborne and gave a 1st class display against Wilmslow Albion and stayed on track for round 3 with a 4-2 success that was just the ticket. Newton also progressed after disposing of Old Altrinchamians, 2-1, but Beb Athletic lost interest in the competition when going down 4-0 at Knutsford while Capenhurst Villa surprisingly suffered a 1-0 reversal at Shaftesbury Youth Club. A brace from Peter Rutter was the highlight as Willaston outgunned Middlewich Town 5-2 and Nathan Mapletoft was another 2 goal hero as Upton AA overcame Helsby 5-1. In another all-West Cheshire tie, Mike McGraa was a hat trick star as West Kirby dispensed with Blacon YC, 4-0 and in a repeat of last seasons semi final Cammell Laird Reserves [Craig Cairns, Josh Hughes] again defeated Chester Nomads [Dale Harris].
An Adam McCarthy double inspired Southport Trinity to a 2-0 win over Bootle Reserves in the Liverpool County Challenge Cup 2nd Round while Martin Ho performed a similar feat as Gateacre overcame Essemay O.B. in the Liverpool Junior Cup. South Liverpool Reserves also advanced to the next stage when winning on penalties after sharing 8 goals with Digmoor while Richmond Raith Rovers eased to a 4-1 victory over Widnes Parklands Seniors. Leading marksman of the day was Redgate Rovers Adam Owens who went nap as his side overwhelmed Mosslane, 9-0 in the Liverpool Intermediate Cup and Marshalls Reserves [Andy Iniabere, 2, Rabbi Alexandra, Dave Ojapah, Imad Ali] edged a 9 goal thriller with Mandela. However despite a strike from Kevin Dunning, Widnes Town bowed out of the competition when losing 3-1 to Aintree Villa.
