Five-star Ferndale make it three
UNDER 14 LEAGUE CUP FINAL: Ferndale Rodbourne rounded off a memorable day for the club, defeating Croft Juniors 5-1 to make it three out of four final wins for them.
As in their triumphs in the Under 11 and 13 showpieces, Ferndale dominated their opponents despite going a goal down three minutes in when Tom Green slotted home a Sam Burnside cross.
Two minutes later Ferndale's Gianluca Constable could only find the side-netting with a shot from six yards.
However, on 14 minutes Constable made amends as he shot past Joe Skudlarz from six yards.
A mix-up between Skudlarz and his defence then allowed Arron Selby to give Ferndale the lead as he turned in a Jordan McGovern cross.
A great save on the stroke of half-time from Skudlarz to deny a powerful Constable shot ensured Ferndale's lead was at a minimum going into half time.
But that lead was nearly extended again 11 minutes after the restart when a swift turn and shot from Nathan Gambling forced Skudlarz to tip wide.
Six minutes later a deft backheel flick from Gambling put McGovern clean through but he shot over from 12-yards.
Daniel Gentleman finally doubled the advantage in the 54th minute.
Skudlarz tipped Gambling's free kick but only into the feet of Gentleman who scored from close range.
With nine minutes left Arron Valters caught Croft in possession and cut inside before firing into the roof of the net at the near post to make it 4-1.
A well-crafted McGovern goal then completed the scoring.
Valters whipped in a cross to the far post, which was headed back by Selby for McGovern to tap in.
