With Jack Frost the winner in the opening Saturday of 2025 only 3 Premier division games survived the weather. Challengers Anstey Town, started their new year campaign in similar fashion to the end of 2024, by dropping points and not closing the gap on the sidelined top3. Anstey shipped a goal in each half as Thurnby Rangers left Beaumont Park with their first win in 5 starts, 0-2, after goals from Jamie Hartie and Colby White.
Meanwhile Aylestone Park Res seem to have found their shooting boots and sprinted to a 5-0 half time lead against Friar Lane and Epworth. The Parks made it 11 by the close of play and also kept a clean sheet as Bayem Onelum (4), Hayden Stephens(2), Charlie Woollard, Josh Brodella and Evan Kane completed the 11-0 score sheet for their 2nd comprehensive victory on the spin.
Highfield Rangers eased into the top 6 with a 2-0 defeat of Sileby Town after a goal in each half from Tyrell Brady and Ewan Mansfield made it 3 wins on the trot for the Rangers.
In Everards1, 4 games survived with leaders Lutterworth Athletic Reserves sidelined. Loughborough Students Devs moved within striking distance, 3 points behind with a game in hand, after a 2-0 defeat of Mountsorrel Amateurs. The Students scored in each half with Ashden Shortland, and off the bench Omololu Odusanya on target.
St Patricks moved into the top 4 after their 7th game without defeat, 2-4 at Birstall Utd Res, who after today’s results slip to the bottom rung after 3 defeats on the spin. Kaden Green and Kai Taylor netted a goal in each half for the hosts but a brace apiece from Ash Day and Jack Hickey turned a 1-2 half time lead into 3 points.
Dunton & Broughton Utd started 2025 in style, moving off the bottom rung with a 5-0 defeat of Ingles Devs. They led 3-0 at the break and finished with a brace of goals from Ben Jackson added to with singles from Isaac Hart, Jancy Mbomba and Will Oldham.
Sutton Bonington sit just above Dunton, but they went down 0-3 at home to Holwell Sports Res who made it back to back wins after going 0-3 up in 25 minutes. Max Fisher(2) and Dave Hazeldine enabled the Sports to move into the top half of the table.
Everards2 was also curtailed due to the weather with 3 league matches and 4 County Cup matches but Whetstone Athletic got back to winning ways with a 3-1 defeat of Hinckley Borough after turning round all square, 1-1 at the break. They moved into 2nd spot with goals from Enedin Sejdic, Nathan Turner and Lewis Garner off the bench. Harry Jarvis netted the Borough first half goal but they have now slipped to 8 consecutive defeats.
Magna73 Res made it 3 wins on the spin with a 2-0 defeat of Friar Lane and Epworth Res after a goal in half from Jamie Simon and Spencer Beck.
Leicester Nirvana Res completed their 4th successive victory, a 1-2 away win at Barrow Town Res who are struggling to pick up points and sit 2nd from bottom. Callum Armsden netted the 2nd half Barrow consolation but a goal in each half from Domitru Balosu and Alex Munteannu took the 3 points back to Hamilton Park.
In the Westerby Group Saturday Trophy Quarter Finals, Everards2 current leaders, Community Football Academy were too strong for St Patricks reserves and went through 0-9.
In the all Everards2 clash, the Rothley Imps v Glen Villa tie went as the form book with Villa easing through 0-4 and Loughborough FC continue their good form with a 3-1 defeat of Leicester Rangers First. The Brookside Athletic v Kibworth Town match was postponed due to pitch conditions and will most likely be played next week.
