A preview to this seasons Sunday League

The 2016/17 Chesterfield and District NAPIT Sunday League season gets underway on Sunday with sixty-seven teams competing across six divisions. There will also be two cup competitions, the Alma and the Chatsworth, to be contested.

One noticeable absentee from this seasons line up will be Hasland Devonshire, who were league champions in three of the previous four seasons, as the club has now folded. FC Britannia will be looking for a resurgence after last seasons disappointment and Hepthorne Lane will be looking to continue where they left off last season after finishing Runners Up in 1. Perhaps the most eagerly awaited debut in Division 1 is FC United of Bolsover, current Division 2 champions and Alma Cup holders and after a very prosperous pre season, they will certainly be hoping to contend. Newbold also debut in 1 for the first time ever after winning Division 3 so they will also be looking to impress.

Other teams to look out for who are stepping up a few divisions are Division Champions Renishaw Rangers, Division 5 Runners Up Britannia Rose and Division 4 Winners Crown KIllamarsh who go into Division 2. Add in Renishaw MW and previous division 2 teams Clowne Wanderers Reserves and Dronfield Vic and you have a very competitive Division 2.

Elsewhere Furnace Hill Hurricanes will be hoping to hold their own in Division 4 after being promoted from 6, a very talented Spartans side will also be looking towards the title in 4 as will Brimington United Shoes who finished strong in 4 last season.

Five new teams have joined the league for the new season, FC Brimington, who will play in division one, FC Badger and Birdholme Club, in division three and Blue Bell Bolsover and Hasland Community A in division six.

Several clubs have also been renamed for the upcoming campaign. In division two Hady Villa are now Shoulder of Mutton, in three Crispin Casuals are now Black Swan, in four Brimington Arms is the new name for New All Inn, Evolution have evolved into Bridge Inn and Royal Oak Rangers will now be known as Chesterfield Rangers. In division five Astwith All Stars have become Holmewood Park Rangers, Harleys Scarlets are now Spireite Pub and Hasland Community is the new name for Hasland Community Eagles. Finally, in six New Bolsover Social Club will be known as Black Bull Rangers.
