The latest action from the league as the first month of fixtures comes to a close.

The first month of the NMDFL season is over and six teams have come through the month with a 100% record. Three of those are in the North Division (Penistone Church, Emley & Worsbrough Bridge) with one in the Central Division (Harworth Colliery) and two in the South Division (Sherwood Colliery & Long Eaton United).

Action got underway on Monday evening with Long Eaton hosting Kimberley Miners Welfare in the South Division. Grange Park regulars went home very happy with a 6-1 win for the home side. Ben Bowers netted four times with further goals from Riley Phillips and Alans Voskresenskis. The sole reply for Kimberley came from Dennan Morgan. There was a 10 goal thriller on Wednesday night at Rainworth MW where the host drew 5-5 with G3A academy to get their first point of the season. The game saw two hat-tricks, Toby Francis for Rainworth and Jacob Pearce for G3A (Pearce going to the top of the league scoring charts in the process). Rainworth’s other goals coming from Henry Curry and Blake Goucher, whilst Callum Wright bagged twice to get G3A a share of the spoils. On Thursday Sherwood Colliery continued their perfect start to the defence of their title with a 3-1 win against Notts County at Debdale Park. Corey Clarke, Cameron Pinnock and Devon Smith scoring for Colliery with the Magpies reply coming from the boot of Oliver Unwin.

North Division action started on Tuesday night Worsbrough Bridge making it three wins from three. Calum Smith, Alfie Stokes and George Walker were all on target in a 3-0 win at Jubilee Sports. Penistone Church won their 4th straight game, Jack Lenthall, Taylor Fairbanks and an own goal made them one or three sides to score three away from home in the same division this week, Thorncliffe Villa were on the other end of the 0-3 result. Emley were the other side to achieve the feat, they won 3-1 at winless Swallownest. The home side had Jake McKechnie to thank for their goal once again, but a brace from divisional scoring leader Adil Ayub’s brace made it 5 for him in the opening 3 games and Adam Mirza also hit the back of the net for the visitors. Friday night saw Dronfield and Hansdsworth get their first point of the season as the sides drew 0-0 at Oliver’s Mount.

The Central Division was the last to get underway, and Dinnington Town were soundly beaten at home by reigning league champions Gainsborough Trinity. Trinity lost for the first time in 18 games last week and certainly took it out on their hosts at Phoenix Park. Tobias Burke and Josh Fraiwald both netted twice alongside a goal from Harvey Rodgers as Gainsborough won 5-1. Dinno’s reply coming from Louis Seddons. On Thursday evening Harworth slayed another of their contenders for the Central Division title as they beat Retford United 4-1. A Gage Parton double along with goals from Mason Laws and Rio Allen were enough to see off the Badgers who replied through Jack Anderson-Dormer. Retford also finished the game with 10 men. Across town, Retford FC picked up their first win with a 5-3 victory at Club Thorne. Luckily the game was won for them before poor discipline saw them reduced to 9 men in the final few minutes. A problem they will need to address if they are to continue climbing the standings. Retford’s scorers were Daniel Ogley (2), Harvey Batty, Leule Gobeze and Krzysztof Jarosz. Thorne replied through a brace for Charlie Dunn and one from Jake Evans. And on Friday Worksop Town followed up their first win of the season at Cannon Park last week with a 3-2 victory over Goole. The Tigers with goals from Ellis Bennett (who leads the divisions scoring chart with 4), Oscar Clark and Cole Jarvis. Goole replied through Pedro Collarile and Harrison Whitely.

This coming week we take a break from league action for the first round of league cup fixtures. On Monday, North meets Central as Emley host Club Thorne and South meets North at Grange Park where Long Eaton United play Swallownest. Wednesday sees another South v North contest as Rainworth MW welcome Dronfield Town. Thursday sees Penistone Church host South Division side Kimberley MW, there’s an all South clash between Sherwood Colliery and Matlock Town, and North Division Thorncliffe host Central Division side Goole. The cup action is rounded off on Friday with Staveley MW hosting Dinnington Town in a clash between former division rivals now representing the South and Central league.
