In a league programme reduced by cup fixtures Maghull returned to the top of Carlsberg West Cheshire Division 1 when easing to a 4-0 win over Marine Reserves. Shrugging off their previous weeks defeat Maghull had Lee Tynan finding the net twice against his old club while Matty Poulson and Bradley Smart were also on target. In the only other top sphere encounter the meeting of last seasons promoted teams Marshalls and Southport Trinity produced an exciting 3-3 draw. Simon Meredith, Phil Frankland and Kevin Fitzpatrick netted for Trinity with Phil Davies,2, and Jay Nilson responding for the hosts. Bronze Socials notable Cheshire Amateur Cup journey ended in defeat at Stockport based side Spurley Hey. Antony Anglesey found the net for Social who eventually went down by a 4-1 score line. Mossley Hill Athletic strengthened their 4th placing in Division 2 thanks to a 2-1 victory over 5th placed Beb Athletic. Yusef Malik and James Halligan registered for the hosts with Graham Carvell again finding the net for Athletic. Paul Stevenson and Mark Edwards inspired West Kirby Reserves to a 2-1 success at Mallaby who had Mark Brady as their marksman. A close 2-1 victory for Manor Athletic over Ashville Reserves was enough to take them to the top of Division 3 on goal difference from Runcorn Linnets Reserves. Lloyd Ithell was the Manor hero by bagging a double while Jay Buddy posted for Ashville.
Matters are tight at the top of the Youth Division where 4 sides are separated by just 3 points. Kieren Brislen was a 2 goal star for new leaders Maghull as they leapfrogged over Belfry after defeating them 4-0 while 3rd placed Hale had Bradley and Craig Williams registering in the 2-0 victory at REMYCA. Halewood Town have games in hand and on Saturday Sam Sullivan, Louis Ruddock and James McNamee all found the net in their 3-1 win over Widnes Town.
A single Chris Barrow goal was sufficient for Ashville to progress to the Wirral Senior Cup semi finals at the expense of 1st Division Willaston. In the same competition Heswall entertained Ellesmere Port and after an evenly fought 1st period the hosts applied increasing 2nd half pressure and were rewarded late in the game when a left wing cross was deflected into the path of Matty Houghton who hammered home the winner. Vauxhall Motors Reserves avenged their Pyke Cup defeat at the hands of Newton when overcoming Newton 2-1. Mark Ryan and Phil Coffin did the damage for the Vauxhalls with Jon Paul Stanhope replying. Second Division New Brighton battled hard before going down 4-2 at West Kirby. Jay Clare and Peter Howells struck for the visitors while Paul Hughes, Chris McGinn, Chris Hesketh and Dave Forbes obliged for the holders.
Chester Senior Cup action saw 2nd Division leaders Chester Nomads get the better of 1st Division Upton AA by the odd goal in 5. Martin Gaulton, Kieran Smith and Dale Harris obliged for Nomads as Simon Andrews and William Kelly replied. There were also wins for Christleton who included a Lennox Beddows double in their 4-2 success at Chester Celtic, while Blacon YC enjoyed a rare triumphed when Jeff Abrahams and Chris Dunning netted in a 2-0 victory at Duddon United. Paul Hart was a 4 goal man for Hale as they reached the semi finals of the Liverpool Junior Cup following an 8 goals to 4 win over Boilermakers but Marshalls Reserves lost out by the odd goal in 7 to Smiths SD in the Liverpool Intermediate Cup.
