LAIRD RESERVES GO TOP

Cammell Laird Reserves produced the fireworks in their top 3 clash with Marine Reserves , at Kirklands when coming from 2 goals down to defeat their opponents, 4-3. Jonothan Atkinson,2, Chris Hesketh and Craig Cairns produced the goods for the new league leaders with Rob Doran, John Connelly and James Hooper obliging for The Mariners. Heswall lie in 2nd spot but with games in hand after drawing a blank with in-form visitors West Kirby who asked most of the attacking questions in the 1st period without finding the answers in front of goal. The hosts came more into the picture after the break but with defenders generally on top, neither side were able to produce the vital breakthrough. Newton were also held at home as strikes by Paul Davies and Lee Kissock were cancelled out by Adam Langton and Jamie Rogers for Blacon YC. This week’s benefactors were local rivals Vauxhall Motors Reserves who had Graeme Davidson,2, Kynan Mason and Luke Camden finding the net as Haydn Cooper and Dean Namm posted for Port. Christleton and Southport Trinity had to settle for a point apiece after Darren Coyle had registered for the homesters, with Ian Morrison doing likewise for visiting Trinity.
Alex Woodcock earned the plaudits as his hat trick steered unbeaten South Liverpool to an emphatic 6-1 success at Prescot Cable Reserves while another side yet to taste defeat, Mallaby, gained a 2-0 verdict over Helsby courtesy of John Hedges and James Ashton. Capenhurst Villa claimed their 3rd league win of the season at the expense of Marshalls who they overcame, 2-1. Mike Banks and Iain Forster pounced for Villa with Grant Cox netting for the hosts. Owen Davies was again on the mark for Heswall Reserves who remain 3rd after sharing the spoils at Manor Athletic [Andy Kingham]. In a reduced 3rd Division programme, Beb Athletic Reserves [Adam Crosby, Dave Iqbal, Andy Earnshaw] overcame Widnes Town [Paul Cliff,2] by the odd goal in 5 while Belfry split 6 goals with Capenhurst Villa Reserves. The game at Neston Nomads, where Ellesmere Port Reserves were the visitors, was abandoned with 14 minutes remaining due to misconduct.
Kieran Owen and Connor McCarthy hit doubles as Gateacre enjoyed a 6-2 success at Custys in the Youth Division while Ramsbottom Town got the better of Vauxhall Motors by 4 goals to 3. Bootle booked a place in round 3 of the Liverpool FA Youth cup after defeating Breeze, 5-2, but South Liverpool bowed out after going down 3-0 to Formby Junior Sports.
In the Wirral FA Amateur 2nd round, West Kirby Reserves [Rob Courtney, Stewart Jackson] dumped holders Ashville Reserves out of the competition courtesy of a 2-0 victory while Beb Athletic and Maghull Reserves made progress on the strength of 3-1 victories gained at the expense of Shaftesbury YC and Willaston respectively. Mossley Hill Athletic drew 1st blood in their Liverpool FA Challenge Cup 3rd round clash with Eagle Sports and although their opponents later leveled, a superb Conner Miller volley advanced Mossley to the next stage. Liverpool FA Intermediate action saw Dave Ojapah grab both Marshalls Reserves goals as they overcame East Liverpool, 2-1 and John Daly was another 2 goal man as Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves saw off the challenge of the Redgate Rovers by the odd goal in 7 after extra time. Hale Reserves also required added time when making progress by the same score line at the expense of Jay Mc F.C. The 4th round draw of the Liverpool Junior Cup will feature Richmond Raith Rovers, who overcame Allerton 2-0, and South Liverpool Reserves, 3-2 winners against Orford.
