Over the past 3 years Cumberland FA has been proud to offer an attractive new format of football for local Cumbrian women’s teams, with this summer proving the most popular yet.

10 local teams have just completed the CFAWL summer phase with over 80 competitive matches taking place right across Cumbria; with popular Carlisle side Crown Newlaithes Ladies taking top spot.

We look forward to welcoming our Cup and Trophy competition finalists this month to Frenchfield Park, Penrith for two exciting finals to round off a fantastic season.

Football Development Officer Jess Nelson said, ‘We are extremely proud of how much women’s football has evolved in Cumbria. Not only have we seen a progressive growth in the game, but teams interested in playing a variety of different formats. This has been a great tool for retention too.’

But the excitement doesn’t stop there; Jess goes on to say, ‘We’re very excited to be launching our new winter offer under the CFAWL, to not only support new players and new teams into the game, but see our current squad’s access regular football this winter.’

The Programme:
The winter offer will take place across two sites; Lakes College and Harraby sports complex, with both venues being able to cater for 5v5, 7v7 or 9v9 fixtures (dependant on entries & number of players).

The format will be relaxed, but have a competitive edge with league fixtures and tables. The aim of the programme is to keep summer league players involved in the game, as well as offer something new to U16 teams moving up. It will also provide a perfect environment for lapsed/new recreational players to play in a competitive format of the game.

*First two dates will act as welcome sessions, welcoming all teams, new players, transitional teams etc and will play a collection of games to support potential banding and formats for the remainder of the season.

- Teams pay £20 each match day to cover costs
- Match duration will depend on team entries
- Squads can consist of Max 10 players (teams encouraged to enter multiple teams if possible)
- Rolling subs can be used
- Teams must give at least 5 days notice if they are unable to attend. Failure to do so may incur a sanction imposed by the league (to be confirmed)
