CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE AFL
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 6th NOVEMBER
Second Division leaders Chester Nomads maintained their unbeaten record after an exciting 2-2 draw with their nearest rivals Ashville. Nomads were 2-0 ahead after 20 minutes when Kieran Smith and Andy Fitzgibbon netted following free kicks. Inspired by ex Tranmere youngster Ross Rule the visitors hit back and were level by the break courtesy of Tim Bigland and Andy Kingam. Neither side was able to make a 2nd half breakthrough with the clearest opportunity being spurned by Ashville. At the other end of the table Bronze Social claimed their 1st maximum of the season when Lee Dermody,2, and Anthony Anglesey were on target in the 3-0 defeat of Capenhurst Villa while Rob Madine was a hat trick star as Richmond Raith Rovers overcame Hale 4-2. New Brighton [Jay Clare, Lee Forsythe, Tom Rowlands] edged out Maghull Reserves [Ian Johnson, Jack Boardman] by the odd goal in 5 and Prescot Cables Reserves [Steve Tames,2, Sam Gifford, Phil Davies] enjoyed a clear 4-1 triumph at the expense of visiting Mallaby [Joel Taylor].
Theres no change at the top of Division 1 after the 3 leading sides all registered emphatic away wins. James Kenyon and Owen Davies notched doubles as Heswall cemented 3rd spot thanks to their 6-1 defeat of basement boys Blacon YC. A Dave Forbes hat trick spearheaded a 5-1 victory for leaders West Kirby at Upton AA and Sam Wilkie,2, Lee Keenan and Tom Foley were on the mark as Maghull eased to a 4-1 success at champion side Cammell Laird Reserves who are still seeking their 1st win. It was all square at Helsby [Andy Dunning,2] who shared the spoils with Marine Reserves [Paul Pearson, Tony Amos] while Willaston slumped to another heavy home defeat as Newton [Nathan Mapletoft, 2, Kieran Fleetwood, Dan Menhard, Lee Kissock] registered 5 times without reply.
There was success on all fronts for West Cheshire clubs in the Liverpool County Challenge Cup with Richard Jones and Dave Powell posting for Marshalls in the 2-1 defeat of Lucas Sports. An Ian Morrison brace was the highlight of Southport Trinitys 2-1 victory over Ford Motors and Mossley Hill Athletic overcame Red Rum on penalties after the sides had earlier shared 6 goals. Marshalls completed a club double when Neil Standish grabbed a brace for the Reserves in their 3-1 Liverpool Intermediate cup victory at Golden Lion while Hale Reserves got the better of Old Xaverians Reserves when running out 2-1 winners in a Liverpool Junior 3rd cup tie.
In a reduced 3rd Division programme Runcorn Linnets Reserves strengthened their position at the top as strikes by Jack Webb, Josh Smith, Jay Cawley and an own goal earned them a 4-1 triumph over Helsby Reserves while Capenhurst Villa Reserves [Mike Simmons, Mike Urmston] drew 2-2 with Merseyside Police [Richard Denny, Lee Hanson]. A hat trick by youngster Sean Heggarty and a Graham Carvell strike ensured Beb Athletics passage to the next stage of the Wirral Amateur cup as they saw off Ellesmere Port Reserves 4-1 and Andy Brown and Jonathon Li were on the scoresheet as Heswall Reserves edged Manor Athletic [Oliver James] out of the competition. Also through are Ashville Reserves 4-0 winners over Mersey Royal and holders West Kirby Reserves who defeated New Brighton Reserves 2-1.
In a truncated Youth Division fixture list 9 man Runcorn Town netted a last minute winner in their 2-1 success at Ellesmere Port while there were defeats for the bottom 2 clubs as Helsby won 3-0 at Neston Nomads and Anthony Murphy netted the games only goal as Runcorn Linnets defeated cross river rivals Widnes Town.
