Squirrel Win Is The Nuts
FA Sunday Cup:
Nirankari Stevenages run ended in the second round as they were beaten by a couple of goals to nil at Belstone in Radlett.
Division 2 League Cup Preliminary Round:
Hartham Press hit the crossbar four times and played the last part of the game with ten men due to injury. However, Gary Baker opened the scoring for FC Squirrel before James Khakpour-Smith equalised with a bullet into the bottom corner. Dave Stroomer restored the lead and a calm lob later on gave him a hat-trick. Baker also netted again as did Scott Harris with a twenty-yard rocket. Hartham also scored courtesy of a superb Dan Curtin volley from a corner and a diving header from Andy Parrish but they missed out on a tie against Stevenage Leisure Limited.
Division 4 League Cup Preliminary Round:
Crooked Billet Boro made a quarter-final tie with Roebuck Gate after an easy win over Granby thanks to Rob Smith, Steve Bush and Craig Snowden.
Premier Division:
Broadhall are still second despite suffering late heartache. Strike pair John Johnston and Martin Thomas put them two up in a feisty encounter. However, Almond Tree United forced their way back into it thanks firstly to a Danny Lingwood strike just before the break, then Neil Henderson shrugged off a defender to fire home low from the edge of the box. With just five minutes remaining, a chipped free kick from Carl Lingwood found Adam Bannister at the far post, he then rolled the ball back across the goal for Danny Lingwood to fire home a dramatic winner.
Bottles sit fourth after hammering MBDA. Ryan Warner (hat-trick), Piers Le-Grand (two), Lee Wilson (two, one pen), Martin Wilson and Mark Outram were on target past stand-in keeper Liam Boon. They were always on top and moved the ball well. Ashley Kersey reduced the arrears early on from Gary Hodgsons clever cross and Kyle Watson also netted in the first half with an excellent strike from Nigel Tingeys through-ball.
Marquis United have been struggling with numbers of late and played the first half-hour with ten. Highview only led by one at the break thanks to John Vooght. Nick Wellings added a brace after the break, but they had to be content with a point as Theo Swaine scored a cracker from twenty-five yards out, whilst Barry Hazelton and Jim Bywater were also on target.
