Welly Old Boys manager Graham Jenkins knew his completely new squad would struggle against top opposition this season

Alan Hibbs standing in for the absent Tadley manager Bradley Nash, felt after they lost 4-0 to Basingstoke Royals, the team we played today will be right up there in the top two on this performance. Steven Price scored the first after 30 minutes and soon after half time James McIntosh made it 2-0 with a shot in off the post. McIntosh them scored again and Nick Willcox came up with the fourth after picking up a back pass. Richard Munday pulled off a couple of good saves for Royals from efforts by Gary Hibbs and Ashley Saunders in the first half.

Hampshire Irons started the season with two excellent wins, but came unstuck when beaten 4-3 in Division One by North Warnborough who had lost their opening two matches. New Borough signing Ben Salisbury gave them a 20th minute lead but Irons hit back with an equalizer, a deflected shot from Kieran Dent. Salisbury soon restored the lead and went 3-1 up when Alex Burns beat keeper Jack Rickard on the hour. Irons came back strongly to level through a fine volley from Jay Greene and then Chris Dobbie headed home a Greene cross. A tight last 15 minutes, but it was Borough with the winner with Burns scoring again. DJS Telecoms, promoted along with Irons, looked on the end of their first defeat when trailing 3-0 against Hook Reserves at half time. Kieran Poole pulled back a good ball for Jack McKee to score in the 27th and after good play by Stuart Charles and Stuart Bowser, McKee made it 2-0 and just before the break Loz Wright put away the third. DJS were quick out of the blocks in the second half with a devastating six minute onslaught when Lee Neal, Ashley Elward and an own goal, in off Dan Hartwell made it 3-3. There was no holding back DJS after this and Neal went on to complete his hat trick. Overton United A were trailing in the ninth minute when Frank Spacagna beat former Skewers keeper Lee Corsan with a 25 yards strike. Overton had Ryan Harrison in their attack and he proved too good for the Twentyten defenders and in the end netted a hat trick. Although Gordon Wainwright and Joe Hill had chances for the home side, they could not hold out, being 4-1 down at half time. Michael Pemberton, Gus Reis and Siyanni Thomas netted the other Overton goal.

In Division Two the match between Preston Candover and Winklebury Wizards was abandoned in the 51th minute when one of the Wizards players Lee Garrett suffered a broken leg. With a long delay waiting for the ambulance Referee Simon Davis decided to abandon. The score at the time was 1-0 to Wizards who scored in the 35th minute through Hugo Carlos after keeper Jimmy Buckland flapped at a cross from Josh Hickey. The likely outcome will be having the match replayed. There was plenty of goals at Berrydown where the “B” team beat Bounty United 7-4., thanks to a hat trick by Dan Hargood. They went in front through Hargood, but Bounty came back to lead 2-1 when Matt Love netted from Mike Gilham corner kick and it was Gillham with the pass that led to Phil Case who drilling in the second in the 40th minute. Overton equalizes through Hargood and then Sammy Aldoori put them 3-2 ahead and the lead was extended when Archie Fletcher, Craig Ralph and Matthew Bonner increased the lead to six. A strong fight back from Bounty made it an interesting last fifteen when first Gilham had a penalty saved by Ryan Watts and then Love put away a corner by Mitchell Stokes. When Jordon Willis made it 6-4 Overton looked worried, but in the final stages Dan Hargood netted the seventh to sew up the points for Overton AFC Aldermaston A managed to beat AFC Berg at home 4-2. Andy Hynes opened the scoring for Aldermaston but Berg hit back though Kieran Alleyne in the 35th and by half time Tom Copper gave them the lead. Cooper scored his second in the 60th from a Tony Johnson pass and Hynes then scored his second before Alleyne scored late again for Berg. It was former Labour Club striker Liam Hartley who proved the match winner for Sherborne for after giving his new team a first minute lead, went onto score all three after Aaron Vaughan had headed home to cancel out his first.
