Hampshire Junior A Cup Fourth Round
Hook cruised through to the last eight of the Hampshire Saturday Junior A Cup after beating Basingstoke United 6-2 at home. It took them 21 minutes to break down the opposition when Dave White finished off a move started by James Neville. United replied in the 37th through Joe Cook following a pass from Josh Lowther, but by half time White restored the Hook lead, White was again the scorer after combining with James Westwood and Neville. Cook had good opportunities for United, but finishing was wide of the target and they paid for these mistakes when Dan Mouradian made it 3-1 in the 62nd.after a cross from Kieran Farmer was not cleared good enough. Dan Framp then made it 4-1 in the 69th but a minute later Lowther pulled another goal back for United with a 25 yard chip. An own goal made it 5-2 and nearing he end Framp netted his second from a Neville pass.

The Hampshire Junior B Cup is assured of being won by a Basingstoke League club, as all four clubs engaged in the Quarter Finals won through, all against Isle of Wight opposition. Basingstoke Labour Club had tough opponents as they had to travel to Newport on the Island to play Wroxall Although they finally won 2-1, thanks to an own goal in the 89th minute, the Labour manager Dan Poulter was far from happy with some of the decisions by the referee which led to his team having three players booked and Josh Dickens receiving a straight red card as early as the 50th minute.
Although the poor playing surface did not help, Wayne Barlow managed to play a good ball through to James McCallion who went on a good run and finished well. After they went down to ten men, the Islander pressed strongly and equalized from a free kick in the 70th minute. The decider came with a minute to go when a corner by Barlow was mishandled by the keeper and this led to an own goal as a defender tried to clear.
Overton United B had pretty well all of the play against Brading Town Reserves at Berrydown and could easily doubled the eight goals they scored without reply.
Scotty Winterbourne ran the show from midfield and it was his pass in the 4th minute that handed Kyle Buckland his first. Buckland soon added another from a Watt Jones assist and was to go on to complete his hat trick by the 48th minute. Jacob Barlow headed home a Josh Smith corner and he too went on to complete a hat trick with two in the second half as Overton dominated the play. Overton United B will now play Labour Club away in the Semi Finals.
AFC Berg came back from trailing 2-1 against Sandown Reserves to win 5-2 and into the last four. Mason Saunders gave them a 15th minute lead with a tremendous 30 yard strike, but back came Wroxall to go 2-1 up with two quick goals by the 25th minute. Carlos Gonzales planted a free kick into the top corner to level and then converted a penalty after Saunders had been brought down. It was before half time when Berg extended their lead when Kieran Alleyne went on a solo run to make it 4-2 at the break.
The opposition proved much harder to break down in the second half and Daave Brickwood’s team had to wait until the 80th minute to add their fifth, when Alleyne scored again after being put through by Saunders.
Winklebury Wizards had the hardest opposition against visitors Kynes Towne, but Wizards came good and won 5-2. It was a hard fought first half with the scores level a1-1 at the break, although they had a chance to go ahead when a penalty taken by George Lagden was saved. That was in the 20th minute, but four minutes later Scott Large found space and chipped a pass to Danny Costan who lobbed over the keeper for the lead. In the 34th minute a 30 yard pot shot beat the keeper for the equalizer. Early in the second half Lagden made amends for his penalty miss by scoring with a 18 yards low drive, but in the 52nd the visitors drew level with a nice header. .It was in the 62nd.when a Dean Scott cross was met by Lagden, who played through for Ryan Watts to make it 3-2. A corner taken by Dan Goodyear was flicked on by Greg Adams, it was half cleared and Lagden made no mistake with a good finish. With five to go Costen played a one two with Richard Lowther to net the fifth. Wizards will now play AFC Berg at home in the Semi Finals.
