Derbyshire County Football Association has been identified as National Winners in the 2014 FA Respect Awards

Derbyshire County Football Association has been identified as National Winners in the 2014 FA Respect Awards within the County FA Award category. The prestigious award recognises the exceptional work that has taken place during the 2013-14 season focussing on making football in the county fair, safe and enjoyable.

During the 2013/14, Cath Morton, County Welfare Officer and Respect Lead Officer has driven the Respect programme for Derbyshire County FA with a focus on improving the match day experience within Derbyshire football with an engaging and innovative approach.

Derbyshire County FA has produced their own Respect based films which will be used as part of educational programmes in the future. Cath Morton, has also delivered Respect educational sessions in clubs and league meetings throughout the 2013-14 season with over 700 individuals involved in football locally attending.

Derbyshire County FA will receive £1000 for use in Respect projects during the 2014-15 season and representatives from Derbyshire County FA will be attending an Awards ceremony before the FA Community Shield on 10th August 2014. Greg Dyke, FA Chairman stated “This award recognises the energy and commitment that DCFA have demonstrated in their promotion of Respect and I am delighted that the FA has had an opportunity to reward your achievements”.

Derbyshire County FA were also represented in every category of 2013-14 Respect Awards. Richard Eaton was nominated and shortlisted in the Bobby Moore Individual Respect Award for his commitment towards Respect, Fair Play and working with match officials within the Derby Junior League. Belper Town were also shortlisted in the National League System (1-4) category for their continual efforts in raising awareness of the Respect programme. Well done to both Richard Eaton and Belper Town FC for their efforts throughout the 2013-14 season and for being recognised within the prestigious awards.

Cath Morton, County Welfare Officer and Respect Lead Officer has recognised that Derbyshire County FA would not have been recognised within the Respect Awards without the hard work, commitment and engagement of all clubs, leagues and volunteers help and support throughout the season. “It is a great honour, for the FA to recognise the way Derbyshire County FA have promoted, engaged and rolled out the Respect programme within the last 12 months however our success would not have been possible without the ‘buy-in’ from everyone involved in football in Derbyshire- clubs, leagues, match officials and volunteers from all areas of the game have really embraced all of the Respect projects that have been rolled out throughout the 2013-14 season”
Cath Morton added that Derbyshire County FA will strive to raise standards within the 2014-15 season and that there is still a lot of work to be done. “Unfortunately there are still occasions when individuals have negative experiences in the game- Derbyshire County FA are committed to the Respect programme and there are some exciting projects planned for the next 12 months which will seek to reward Fair Play and Respect within our game locally”.
