Basingstoke & District League Match Reports from Saturday 29th September, By Peter Raynbird.

Division One
Second place Hook, with an inferior goal difference with the leaders Silchester Village, won 3-1 against AFC Aldermaston Reserves. It was a tight first half with the visitors taking the lead on 20 minutes through Marvin Hines. Dan Mauradian had a couple of chances for Hook, one wide and the other saved, before Ashley Wood equalised from an assist by Dan Allison. In the 35th minute Jon Noakes raced up field, beat three men and scored to see \hook 2-1 up at the break. Hines had a great chance to level in a one on one with the keeper, but in the 60th Hook did made sure of the points when Mauradian put away a ball from Tom Lucas

Silchester and Twentyten drew 0-0 in a match that had very few real clear-cut opportunities, but a fair result with both remaining unbeaten. Silchester forced the early pace, with Gary Hibbs shooting over in the 2nd minute and Jason Graham forcing a good stop in the seventh. Jack Clarke went close for Twentyten, as did Joe Hill as they attacked strongly. It was however Peter White, for Silchester who had the best chance late in the game with a header over the bar and Kye Theodore could have done better with his chance. Twentyten looked to have broken the deadlock with ten minutes left when he netted, but it was ruled out for a foul on the keeper.

AFC Berg are proving promotion is no problem by beating Herriard Sports away 5-2, making it three wins in the opening five matches. It was Ashley Elward who took m the eye by scoring four of the five. It took him 15 minutes to net the opener from a flick on by Kieran Alleyne and the second followed in the 27th with a sweet half volley. Chris Dobbie pulled a goal back in the 44th with a header following a cross from Connor Lovell, but before the break Elward completed his straight hat trick with another good strike. A solo effort by Alleyne in the 65th made it 4-1 and the fifth came shortly afterwards when Paul Crow was brought down and Elward netted his fourth from the resulting spot kick. It was from a penalty three minutes from time, awarded for a foul by Anton Medford on Dobbie that was converted by Jason Minton for Herriard’s second.

Tadley Calleva A had their first win when at Berrydown they defeated Overton United A 6-2. No referee arrived, so the Tadley Manager Bradley Nash took the whistle. Overton had only ten men until just before half time and by then they were three goals adrift. It was another of the Tadley youngsters Charlie Neville who gave them the lead after a corner and then Fred Ball rode a challenge to make it two and the third was netted in the 30th again from Neville some 20 yards out. The fourth was scored early in the second half by another young Tadley substitute Tom Haggis before Overton made it 4-1 through ?????. Ellis Theodore made it five and Haggis took advantage of a goalkeeping error for his second and the sixth. Overton scored their second through ??? in the last minute.

Peter Raynbird Cup First Round

I made my way to Stratton Park where three Peter Raynbird Cup matches were being played and opted to watch the AFC Berg Reserves versus Overton United B first round tie. It turned out to be a very one-sided affair with Overton winning 10-2 and striker Andy Bullock scoring four. The first action came after four minutes when Overton were awarded a penalty. Goalkeeper Mindy Kuodys came up to take the kick and hit the post. United were shaken when Berg took the lead two minutes later when an error by Danny Smith handed Steve Death his chance. In the 11th Bailey Roffey put Ross Harwood through to level. Berg then had another opportunity when awarded a penalty kick, but Mark Bone also hit the post. That was the end of Bergs efforts in the first half as Andy Bullock soon put United 3-1 ahead, scoring twice in two minutes, both from assists by Ross Harwood. It became 5-1 at the break after Sami Eldori took a pass from Kevin Beaumont to make it 4-1 and from another spot kick, Kuodys made no mistake this time for a 5-1 interval lead. Bullock soon completed his hat trick before Joe Lister scored the second for Berg, but Bullock went on to score his fourth and Roffey netted the final two.


Oakridge knocked out Basingstoke Athletic with a 4-1 win. Sam Trodd with a decent cross and his twin brother Max put them ahead very early and Sam soon added a second from an assist by Mike Anigbo. Aaron Johns made it 3-0 following a Chris Andrews free kick and by half time it was 4-0 when Johns scored again after taking a pass from Sam Trodd. Athletic did have a better second half when good efforts by Paul Taylor and Matt King forced good saves from Jake Barnes. They did manage to beat him when King took a pass from Taylor. Oakridge were awarded a penalty, taken by Andrews, but well saved by James Lounton.

It was a very close match at Everest School where Renegades managed to get through with a 1-0 win over Chineham. It was in the 88th minute when a cross from Ashley Burchett was headed into his own goal by Harry Roberts as he jumped to clear under pressure and this resulted in the decider. Chineham had quite a lot of the play and chances fell to Tom Worth, who forced a good save and Eugenio Carrasco who hit another good chance wide. Tobie Judd was making his debut for Chineham and played with tenacity throughout and was impressive. Renegades keeper Dave Purt in their goal had a good game, keeping a clean sheet.

Twentyten Reserves had no problem getting through to Round Two as they had a very easy 7-2 against AFCC Aldermaston A, with Stephen Bean scoring a hat trick. They cruised into a 3-0 lead by the break, goals from Bean, Jack Hulbert and Jack Barrett. Josh Maylen made it 3-1 but goals from Bean and Joe Richards put the home side 5-1 ahead. Luke Carter then scored the second for Aldermaston, but Hulbert and Bean added further goals as they remained on top.
