CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 7.1.12
The Carlsberg West Cheshire Leagues domination of the Cheshire Amateur Cup continues unabated with the League supplying all 4 of this seasons semi finalists following Saturdays quarter finals. Heswall dominated the 1st half of their tie against Linotype CH and took a 2-0 lead when firstly Richie Foulkes netted after latching on to a through ball then Jock Harrison executed a neat shot on the turn. Even so Heswall keeper Dave Jones twice had to come to his sides rescue only for the visitors to reduce the arrears on the stroke of half time following a corner. After the break the Cheshire Association outfit took charge and Jones was constantly called into action, no more so than when saving a 67th minute penalty as his side held on to clinch a 2-1 victory. West Kirby travelled to Cheshire Association high flyers Knutsford and after missing a spot kick then found themselves a goal down. However Jack Ford hit an equalizer and Kirby went on to claim a 2-1 success thanks to Lewis McNallys late winner. In an outstanding individual performance Matty Houghton was the hero for Cammell Laird Reserves when netting all 4 of their goals in the impressive 4-1 defeat of Manchester League hosts Dukinfield Town. Chester Nomads emerged victorious from the all West Cheshire clash as they found the net 5 times without opponents Willaston mustering a reply. Danny Owen, Kieran Smith, Jack Delgardo, Dan Davies and an own goal counted for a Nomads outfit reaching their first Cheshire semi final.
That result was in contrast to those teams fortunes on Bank Holiday Monday when Nomads lost 1-0 at Christleton, whose Steve Finlay netted a disputed 2nd half penalty, while Willaston [Ian Cross, 2, Trevor Worsley, Colin Cunliffe, Josh Williams, Alan Trotter] lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a resounding 6-2 success at Mossley Hill Athletic [John Bailey, Max Godwin]. On the same day West Kirby had a Jack Ford double to thank for the 2-1 defeat of Vauxhall Motors Reserves who had Josh Walsh netting a 3rd minute opener. At the weekend Ashville [Dave Rudge, Lee Hammond, Josh Dures] edged further ahead in the title race after an odd goal in 5 victory at Mossley Hill Athletic [Dave Byrne, Paul McNeil] while nearest challengers Maghull fought out a goal less encounter with Ellesmere Port. Jonathan Wilkinson and Joe Costello each bagged a brace in Newtons 5-1 triumph at Marshalls and Simon Andrews was another 2 goal man as Upton AA collected 3 valuable points courtesy of their 4-0 defeat of Vauxhall Reserves. Southport Trinity [Carl Ennis, Eric Wood] now occupy bottom slot having lost out 3-2 at Marine Reserves [Karl Berquist,2, Ross McDowell] while Blacon YC [Aiden Shannon] lie one place above them after holding local rivals Christleton [Steve Finlay, pen.] to a 1-1 draw.
Hale maintained their promotion push from Division 2 having got the better of Richmond Raith Rovers by a 6-2 margin in which Danny Murphy starred with a hat trick and New Brighton [Paul Lindfield, 2, Tom Carrol, 2, Anthony Cotgrave] stayed in the hunt after overcoming Mallaby 5-2. Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves and Helsby reached the semi final stage of the Complete Focus Shield following Saturdays 2nd round ties. Tom Moore, 2, Chris Metcalfe and Sean Yates were on target for Athletic as they edged out Beb Athletic Reserves [Ross Meadows, 2, Matt Redmond] 4-3. Extra time was required as Helsby saw off Merseyside Police with a 3-1 success. James Edwards, John Coady and Alan Bond were on target for the victors with Peter Fairfield on the mark for the hosts.
There was success in the Liverpool County FA Youth cup quarter finals for Lower Breck Boys [Shaun Campbell, 2, Ryan Gilbey, Matty Howard] as they overcame Bootle 4-0 while in the same competition Hale [Spencer Douglas, Josh Doran] defeated Allerton [Rob Evans] 2-1 and Maghull got the better of Pex Hill, 4-2.
