Lionesses youngster Rinsola Babajide talks us through her debut performance - by Philippa Christopher-Browne

Millwall Lionesses shared a point in an exciting goalless draw against London Bees in Wednesday night’s opening game of the WSL2 season.

The Lionesses had an impressive start to the game with new signings Rinsola Babajide and Megan Goss developing an impressive forward partnership against the latter’s former club.

Speaking after the match Babajide, who is still only 16 years of age, admitted she was very pleased with her efforts but obviously disappointed with the final result.

“I had a good first game,” she said, “It was a very competitive start to the season, although it was frustrating having so many chances and not being able to get onto the end of it.”

The home team dominated the most part of the game, with a strong midfield force controlled by Lillie Fenlon-Billson, Grace Fisk and Lily Agg.

Taking advantage of the Bees weakness on the left wing, the Lionesses played most of their through balls down that channel throughout the first half, presenting Babajide with some great opportunities to open her account for the season.

Babajide added “In the run up to my debut game, pre-season was great. We kept on developing as a team and we all have a great understanding of how each other plays, so it was really good for me to get used to playing in this team”

The quality in training showed with superb high pressing throughout the first 45 minutes from Ciara Sherwood who played a no.10 role behind centre forward Billson. After such a promising start to the season, manager Dan Mlinar will also be encouraged to see so many of his players having shots on target.

The action returns to The Den this Sunday with the Lionesses facing the FA Cup Holders Arsenal Ladies in the fifth round of the tournament and Rinsola is hoping to make her mark on the game.

She continued “Unfortunately I was subbed off for cramp against Bees but I’ll be fit and ready for Sunday. I’m expecting to finish off the opportunities that I had tonight, bury it and start getting the goals.”
