Millwall Lionesses are pleased to announce they have been awarded Tier 2 status in the FA’s new Regional Talent Club programme.
The Lionesses are one of six WSL 2 clubs that have been awarded a Tier 2 license for the forthcoming season which will begin in July. The Regional Talent Club programme will see U10, U12, U14 and U16s compete in a new structured system planned to improve the development of elite female players through the FA Girls’ England talent pathway.
The Lionesses pride themselves on having one of the best pathways to Elite Women’s football in the UK with current players such as Jordan Butler, Grace Fisk, Leanne Cowan, Frankie Strugnell and Ella Rutherford all graduating through the Centre of Excellence to first team in the last few years.
Stuart Jones, Club Manager for the new Lionesses RTC says “We are pleased that to have been awarded Tier 2 although we have big ambitions to work towards gaining a Tier 1 license. We will work hard to ensure our RTC players have the best coaching and facilities for the upcoming season as we look to build on this great new programme.”
Millwall legend and Women's Technical Director, Les Briley states “Our vision and long term commitment to creating England Internationals through the Women’s Elite pathway has been on display from when we opened as the very first Centre of Excellence and we will continue to work closely with the players and the FA to ensure we do so for years to come.”
