Club Timeline

1971

Millwall Lionesses were founded as an independent women’s team in 1971, growing from strength to strength, before becoming the first women’s team to be affiliated to a men’s side, when they partnered with Millwall FC in the mid-1980’s

1991

The Lionesses win the FA Women’s Cup for the first time in their history as Yvonne Baldeo scores the only goal of the game to overcome Doncaster Rovers Belles 1-0 in the final at Prenton Park

1992

Millwall complete their first season as founding members in the newly created FA Women’s Premier League. Unfortunately a mass exodus of players, following the cup triumph, sees a youthful squad finish seventh in the table

1993

With the support of Millwall FC’s Community programme, the Lionesses become the first club in the country to open a Girls Centre of Excellence, helping develop such notable talents as Mary Phillip, and Katie Chapman

1994

The Lionesses enjoy their most successful season at Premier League level, winning nine and drawing one of their 18 matches to finish fifth in the top flight table

1997

Millwall complete a domestic cup double, seeing off Everton 2-1 to clinch the League Cup, while Lou Waller’s goal ensured the Lionesses beat Wembley 1-0 at Upton Park in the FA Cup Final

2009

Millwall Lionesses win the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division to secure a return to the top tier of women’s football for the first time in eight years

2014

After a successful application, The Lionesses begin their debut season in the Women’s Super League 2 with a 2-2 draw away at Watford. Millwall FC grant permission for home games to be staged at the club’s spiritual home, The Den
